Women's World Cup: India bounce back to crush West Indies and top table

Smriti Mandhana (119, 123b, 13x4, 2x6) and Harmanpreet Kaur (109, 107b, 10x4, 2x6) crushed the West Indies by 155 runs in their Women’s ODI World Cup match, at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Saturday. The strong bond between Mandhana and Harmanpreet, who made batting look effortless during their record 184-run stand in 182 balls for the fourth wicket — the highest partnership for India in a Women’s World Cup game — came to the fore when the champion left-hander, who was announced as the Player of the Match, in a beautiful, laudable gesture, told the commentators that she wanted to share her award with Harmanpreet. “Harman deserved the award equally. Under lights, there was no relief for the Sri Lankan batters either. As many as 16 wickets tumbled on either side with India holding a 166-run advantage. FULL SCORECARDIndia reached 252 in 59.1 overs courtesy a defining innings of 92 (98b, 10x4, 4x6) from Shreyas Iyer and returned in the final session to leave the Sri Lankan challenge in tatters, reducing them to 86/6 in 30 overs. Barring Angelo Mathews (43), none of the Lankan batters got going and it wasn't the spinners but the pacers who got purchase with Jasprit Bumrah (3/15) leading the pack with Mohammed Shami (2/18).

Cavalier Usman Khawaja relishes magic moment in Karachi

Chances to make Test centuries don’t come around very often. Excellent careers might include five or 10. Each innings starts from nothing and gradually climbs across hours, with every rung gained being the one that might break. However placid the pitch, however rich the vein of form, it only takes one good ball, one mistake, one lapse of concentration, piece of bad luck, umpiring error, fine piece of fielding, and the count collapses back to zero.
