DUBAI (UAE): Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews and Pakistan's debutante spin sensation Tuba Hassan were on Monday voted the ICC's 'Player of the Month' for May in their respective categories. Mathews was selected the stand-out male player after piling on runs over the course of his side's impressive ICC World Test Championship series victory against Bangladesh. Amassing 344 runs at an average of 172 over the course of the two Tests, Mathews registered a huge score of 199 in the draw at Chattogram, and a supreme 145 not out in Mirpur.
After winning the three-match ODI series against West Indies, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said there is always room for improvement and his team needs to fare better with the new ball. Pakistan's lower middle-order batting emerged successful from a stern test to help the home side win the third ODI by 53 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method and sweep the series against the West Indies 3-0 here on Sunday.
All-rounder Shadab Khan hit a fighting half century before taking four wickets to anchor Pakistan's 53-run win over the West Indies in the third and final day-night international in Multan which was interrupted by a dust storm.
Nicholas Pooran had bowled just three deliveries in 42 ODIs before Sunday. But in the third and final ODI against Pakistan in Multan, the West Indies limited overs captain took matters into his own hands and spun a web around the Pakistan batters, finishing with four wickets from his 10 overs. And it's not like he went after tail-enders. His list of victims comprised of openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman, the in-form Mohammad Rizwan and middle order newcomer Mohammad Haris.

Shadab hit 86 to lift Pakistan to 269-9 after unlikely West Indian hero Nicholas Pooran grabbed four wickets to leave the home team struggling at 117-5. Opener Imam-ul-Haq scored a brilliant 68-ball 62 but there was a rare failure for world number one ODI batsman Babar Azam who fell for one off three balls. Shadab's leg-spin then fetched 4-62 to dismiss the visitors for 216 in 37.2 overs, giving Pakistan 30 invaluable points in the ODI Super League, a qualification round for next year's World Cup in India. The 3-0 clean-sweep lifted Pakistan to 90 points, fourth in the 13-team ODI League table while the West Indies are fifth with 80.

Joe Root swaggered to a majestic 163 not out and Ollie Pope hit his highest Test score of 145 as rampant England reached 473-5 against New Zealand at close of play on the third day of the second Test. Replying to New Zealand's mammoth first innings score of 553, Root and Pope took full advantage of a docile pitch with a blistering run-spree at Trent Bridge on Sunday. Thanks to the pair's commanding displays, England are in position to match or pass New Zealand's total in a Test that could be destined for a high-scoring draw with two days left.
