DUBAI: Bhanuka Rajapaksa smashed an unbeaten 71 to guide Sri Lanka to 170-6 after Pakistan's Haris Rauf rattled the opposition with early wickets in the Asia Cup final on Sunday (Sep 11).

Sri Lanka were tottering at 58/5 at one point after being put in to bat by Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 final in Dubai on Sunday, but Bhanuka Rajapaksa's brilliant unbeaten 71-run knock coupled with crucial cameos from Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne helped take them to 170/6 in 20 overs. But in conditions where chasing teams have held a major edge, Sri Lanka had to get off to a tight start, but pacer Dilshan Madushanka gifted Pakistan a good boost in their chase.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa came to Sri Lanka's rescue in the ongoing Asia Cup final against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. With his side reeling at 58 for five at one stage, Rajapaksa led Sri Lanka's charge with an unbeaten 71 off just 45 balls as the Islanders managed to post a total of 171 for six in 20 overs. However, Rajapaksa was dropped when he was batting on 54. On the last ball of the penultimate over, Pakistan players Shadab Khan and Asif Ali collided at deep midwicket after Rajapaksa tried to hit Mohammad Hasnain's delivery for a six.
As Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced off in the Asia Cup final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, some Indian fans claimed that they were turned away at the gates. One fan even alleged that cops were pushing fans away saying they could not enter in Indian team jerseys. The Twitter handle of 'The Bharat Army' shared a video of fans narrating the ordeal that they faced. "SHOCKING TREATMENT as The Bharat Army and other Indian Cricket Fans told they can not enter the stadium wearing 'India jerseys'!" the fan group tweeted.

After being put into bat, Sri Lanka's top-order failed to negate the new ball as Pakistan pacers ran riot in the powerplay. Both Sri Lanka openers, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka, were back in the pavillion before the conclusion of the fourth over. While Mendis was castled in the first over by Naseem Shah, Nissanka mistimed his pull and was caught near mid-off by Babar Azam off Haris Rauf's delivery.

Star pacer Naseem Shah and all-rounder Shadab Khan were recalled to the playing XI after sitting out the Super 4 game against the same team. Naseem, who has been in top form in the Asia Cup, announced his return in style as he dismissed Sri Lanka opener Kusal Mendis in the first over.
