Bangladesh axe Mahmudullah Riyad from T20 World Cup squad

This month's disappointing Asia Cup campaign highlighted the team's 20-over woes, with Bangladesh turfed out in the group stage after losing to Afghanistan and eventual winners Sri Lanka. Mahmudullah's inclusion was under a cloud after a lacklustre 151 runs across his eight match appearances in 2022. Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram, appointed last month as the team's T20 consultant, said it was time for the team to think of its future beyond the 36-year-old.

Irfan Pathan Suggests India Playing XI For T20 World Cup Opener Against Pakistan, Omits Young Star

After the BCCI selectors announced a 15-member squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup, all eyes are on the potential playing XI when the Indian cricket team starts its campaign against Pakistan on October 23. With the Indian squad bearing a tried and tested look, all the named players have enough experience on their side. So, picking a perfect XI might be a difficult job for the team management. Former Indian cricket team player Irfan Pathan has given his take on the ideal playing XI and has omitted wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant from it.

Bangladesh Announces Squad For ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Shakib Al Hasan To Lead

Bangladesh announced its squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia on Wednesday, with veteran and former skipper Mahmudullah being a notable omission from the squad. The 15-member squad will be led by Shakib Al Hasan. A lot of players from the Asia Cup squad like Parvez Hossain Emon, Anamul Haque, Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Naim will not travel to Australia after a disastrous Asia Cup campaign that saw them exit from the tournament in Group Stage after losing both their matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

Asia Cup 2022: From 'Underdogs' To Asian Champions - The Story Of Sri Lanka's Emergence

"I think in T20 cricket anything can happen, we can bounce back in next game," a gutted Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka had said after his team's disappointing loss to Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup opener. Many experts had written the side off after the loss. To be honest, they were not among favorites to win the tournament either. Irrespective of the talks around, the group believed in its ability -- so much, that it eventually went on to win the 2022 Asia Cup - its 6th title - by beating teams like India and Pakistan, who were considered as favourites, on their way to glory.
