Sebagai pebalap berkategori Bronze, Darren Leung, rekan setim Sean dan Augusto Farfus di WRT 31, mesti menjalankan tugas di babak kualifikasi kelas LMGT3 (GT3).Pebalap Inggris ini hanya mampu berada di posisi 14 babak kualifikasi, sehingga tidak lolos ke sesi Hyperpole yang hanya menghadirkan 10 pebalap tercepat.Catatan waktu yang dibuat Leung di atas BMW M4 GT3 cuma mencapai 1 menit 56,770 detik, terpaut sekitar 1,5 detik dari pebalap tercepat di kualifikasi, Ian James, dari Heart of Racing Team.Leung juga kalah cepat dari pebalap Bronze sesame WRT, Ahmad Al Harthy yang menggeber mobil nomor 46. Pebalap Oman itu ada di P8 dan lolos ke Hyperpole.Pada babak Hyperpole, pebalap Belgia Tom Van Rompuy yang menggeber mobil Corvette untuk tiim TF Sport mencatat waktu tercepat 1 menit 54,372 detik dan akan start dari pole position. Al Harthy yang merupakan rekan setim Valentino Rossi di WRT 46, hanya mampu berada di urutan kesembilan dengan dengan 1 menit 56,028.Leung mengaku kecewa dengan hasil yang didapat. Tapi dia bertekad membayar lewat performa mantap saat balapan."Saya sudah berusaha keras hari ini. Semoga besok di lomba kondisi kami membaik karena balapan akan panjang," kata Leung.
