Thomas and Geoghegan Hart starred in a lively finish to Stage 8 on Saturday, following a strong attack from Roglic on the final climb, as Evenepoel wilted behind. The pair refused to contribute more than a token effort to Roglic’s attack as they were dragged to the finish in Fossombrone – taking 14 seconds back on Evenepoel in the race for the maglia rosa.

Manchester United’s former player and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that he offered the club the chance to sign Erling Haaland for just £4 million. United were known to be interested in the Norwegian striker when he moved to Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in 2020, but The Athletic reported quotes from Solskjaer which suggested they may have been able to move for the player when he was even younger. Ad Solskjaer managed Haaland at Molde — something that gave United confidence they could sign him from the Austrian side — and at an evening on stage, he discussed a player who was almost certainly the striker in question.
