On the day of the IPL 2024 schedule announcement, a report from news agency PTI claimed that last season's runner-up Gujarat Titans will miss the services of star fast bowler Mohammed Shami. The best bowler of the ODI World Cup 2023 with 24 scalps has been missing from action since the marquee event due to injury. He missed India's Tour of South Africa and the Test series against England at home, and the PTI report said that Mohammed Shami played through pain during the World Cup as he had problems with his landing but didn't let it affect his performance.

Big Blow For Gujarat Titans - Mohammed Shami To Miss IPL 2024 For This Reason: Report

Senior pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of next month's Indian Premier League owing to a left ankle injury, for which he will undergo a surgery in the UK, a BCCI source told PTI on Thursday. The 33-year-old, who is not part of the ongoing Test series against England, last played for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November. "Shami was in London in last week of January to take special ankle injections and he was told that after three weeks, he can start light running and take it from thereon. "But the injection hasn't worked and now the only option left is surgery. He will shortly leave for UK for surgery. IPL seems out of question," a senior BCCI source said on the condition of anonymity.

Babar Azam Surpasses Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle To Register Massive T20 Record

Pakistan star Babar Azam on Wednesday surpassed the likes of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli to become the fastest batter to reach the milestone of 10,000 T20 runs. He is the fastest to achieve the feat in terms of all - innings, matches and time taken. Babar raced to the landmark during his 72-run knock in his team Peshawar Zalmi's seven-wicket defeat to Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League. Ahead of the game in Lahore, Babar was only six short of the 10,000-run mark. Babar got there in 271 innings, 281 matches, and 11 years and 82 days.

Mohammad Hafeez Blasts Babar Azam For Pakistan's Poor Fitness Level, Reveals Shocking Details

Former Pakistan cricket director Muhammad Hafeez has claimed that ex-captain, Babar Azam and foreign coaches Mickey Arthur and Grant Bradburn had given team fitness lowest priority in the lead-up to the ODI World Cup in India. Pakistan, under then-skipper Babar, had failed to make it to the semifinal knockout round, losing five of the nine league games and finishing fifth. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently did not renew Hafeez's contract following disastrous tours of Australia and New Zealand. Hafeez was made team director in late 2023 after Pakistan's abysmal show in the World Cup.
