The Indian cricket team will be looking to book its slot in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final as they start their five-match Test series against Australia. India's dreams were dealt a massive blow as they slumped to a 0-3 series loss against New Zealand at home. However, with five matches against Australia in the next couple of months, India have a massive opportunity to reach the WTC Final for the third consecutive time. Here's a look at the scenarios where India can book their WTC Final berth -
India wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of remainder of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL 10) due to a wrist fracture, said the Melbourne Stars. "Indian international Yastika Bhatia will miss the remainder of the tournament after further scans revealed a small fracture in her wrist. There is no change to the Melbourne Stars squad to take on the Heat at Allan Border Field tomorrow night (Friday)," Stars said in a media release. Yastika was selected by the Stars with pick 21 in the Overseas Player Draft and joined the squad in Sydney off the back of India's ODI series against New Zealand.
TURIN : New Zealand's former captain Sam Cane and scrumhalf TJ Perenara will get the chance to play for the All Blacks for a final time after being picked on Thursday in the matchday squad to face Italy at the weekend.
Rohit Sharma is all set to join the Indian cricket team squad in Perth on November 24, according to a report by Cricbuzz. The India skipper is expected to fly out to Australia in the coming days and he will join the squad on Day 3 of the first Test match at the Opus Stadium in Perth. Rohit missed the first Test match due to the birth of his second child but he is expected to play the second Test in Adelaide starting December 6. In Rohit's absence, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the side in the first Test.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes India head coach Gautam Gambhir's recent crack at him about stalwart Virat Kohli's form comes down to deflecting pressure following their home series whitewash against New Zealand. The element of spice has added another layer of intensity to the rivalry between two Test heavyweights of modern-day cricket. Things started to flare up after Gambhir took a jibe at Ponting for criticizing Kohli for his recent form. The former Australian skipper's comments didn't sit well with the Indian head coach.
Ahead of the first Test against Australia of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah shared that star India batter Virat Kohli looked extremely sharp in the nets, but added that he did not want to jinx it. The first Test between India and Australia will kickstart on Friday at Perth's Optus Stadium. Both sides, placed at the top two spots of the ICC World Test Championship points tally will be aiming to make their chances for the final stronger. While India seeks to bounce back after a rare, but humiliating home setback against New Zealand, Australia would be aiming to avoid a hat-trick of series losses to India at home.
India's stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah on Thursday insisted that his team is not carrying any baggage from the unprecedented 0-3 defeat at home against New Zealand as it embarks on a challenging Test series against fierce rivals Australia. Bumrah replaced Rohit Sharma as the team's captain for the series opener after the latter had to miss the match due to the birth of his baby boy. While it isn't a usual sight to see bowlers taking up the leadership role, Bumrah feels they are 'tactically better' than batters, and hence, should be given leadership responsibilities more often.
