Ravichandran Ashwin retires from international cricket as one of world cricket's finest-ever spinners and arguably India's greatest ever. With 765 wickets across all formats, and 537 in Tests, the numbers speak for themselves when it comes to the 38-year-old spinner. From making his debut in 2010, Ashwin's 15-year career in international cricket has seen some superlative highs. Here's a look at some of his biggest moments:
"If I am not needed right now in the series, I am better off saying goodbye to the game," R Ashwin told India skipper Rohit Sharma before his surprise international retirement, refusing to let anyone else write his script after 14 years of service to the game. It is understood that retirement was on his mind after the home series against New Zealand, which India shockingly lost 0-3. He had made it clear to the team management that if he was not guaranteed a place in the playing eleven during the Australia series, he would not even travel Down Under.
High Performance Sport New Zealand on Wednesday announced NZ$162.8 million ($93.69 million) in government funding for Olympic and Paralympic sports in the run-up to the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner was named as the successor to Kane Williamson as New Zealand captain in one-day internationals and Twenty20 cricket on Wednesday.
Spin bowler Mitchell Santner was named New Zealand captain for both white ball formats Wednesday, filling a six-month vacancy since teammate Kane Williamson stood down. Santner, who has played 107 one-day internationals and 106 T20Is, will begin his tenure with a three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka from December 28. The 32-year-old has previously led New Zealand in 28 white ball matches, some on a stand-in basis after Williamson relinquished the role following the T20 World Cup in June. Santner described the full-time appointment as a "huge honour".
