LEEDS, England (Reuters) - The start of play on the final day of the third and final test between England and New Zealand was delayed on Monday due to rain over Headingley as the hosts needed 113 runs to compete a clean sweep of the series.
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler had a memorable IPL 2022 for Rajasthan Royals as he scored 863 runs, including four centuries and he was the main reason that the franchise was able to reach the finals. The batter continued his form in the recently-concluded ODI series against the Netherlands as he scored 162 not out in the first ODI. Former Sri Lanka skipper and Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara has now backed Buttler to open the innings in Tests.

England had very little going their way in Test cricket in the recent past, but a change in the leadership group, has seen an upturn in fortunes for them. With Brendon McCullum appointed head coach and Ben Stokes given the Test captaincy, things suddenly seem to be going England's way. Their new brand of cricket has received widespread praise with results also going their way. Lady luck seems to be on the side of the English as well, as witnessed on Day 4 of the third and final Test at Headingley, Leeds.
Day 5 of the ongoing third Test between England and New Zealand has been delayed due to rain. Earlier, brilliant half-centuries from Ollie Pope and Joe Root put England well on their way to a 3-0 series whitewash over the visiting New Zealanders. At stumps on Day 4, Pope was unbeaten on 81 and Root 55 not out with England needing 113 more runs to win the third and final Test at Headingley and complete a series sweep. Going into Day 5, New Zealand will be praying for a miracle with the English firmly in control. England will be firm favourites to wrap up a 3-0 series success over Test world champions New Zealand after chasing down stiff targets of 277 and 299 in five-wicket wins at Lord's and Trent Bridge respectively.
