NEW DELHI : An exasperated Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming said their failure to read the pitch at Chepauk has denied them any home advantage in the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rohit Sharma says the Indian team has endured cricket's vicissitudes in the last nine months but it waged a collective battle to achieve success and every member of the side that competed in the last three ICC tournaments deserves "respect". In their last three ICC limited-overs tournaments, India have lost only one out of 24 matches, with the defeat coming against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad. The India team recently won the ICC Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup at home last year.
New Zealand all-rounder Muhammad Abbas on Saturday shattered a huge record during the 1st ODI against Pakistan at the McLean Park in Napier. On debut against the country of his birth, Abbas struck 52, setting a world record for the fastest half-century on debut when he reached 50 off the 24th ball he faced. Abbas, who was born in Lahore, surpassed the previous best of Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya, who had scored a fifty in 26 balls on his ODI debut.
Mark Chapman struck a sublime century and Nathan Smith claimed four wickets Saturday as New Zealand eased to a 73-run win over Pakistan in the first ODI in Napier. Chapman's career-best 132 formed the foundation of an imposing 344-9 at McLean Park before Pakistan's promising chase capitulated, to be all out for 271 in the 45th over. The tourists looked on track at 249-3, at that point needing 96 runs to win, with more than 11 overs remaining. However, seamer Smith (4-60) helped to spark a late collapse, with the last seven wickets falling for 22 runs.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Stephen Fleming lost his cool at a journalist, following his side's loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday. Fleming went back and forth at the journalist who compared CSK's brand of cricket to the other teams. The former New Zealand, captain, however, was not in a jovial mood as he slammed the journalist for his "silly" question. CSK suffered its first loss of the season, going down against RCB, who won at the Chepauk for the first time after 2008, by 50 runs.
New Zealand vs Pakistan, 1st ODI LIVE Score Updates: A brilliant knock from Mark Chapman helped New Zealand post 344/9 in 50 overs against Pakistan in the first ODI of a three-match series on Saturday in Napier. Asked to bat first, the Kiwis lost three wickets in a quick succession but Chapman and Daryl Mitchell's partnership brought them back into the game. Chapman scored 132 while Mitchell scored 76. Apart from them, debutant Muhammad Abbas scored 52 off 26 balls. For Pakistan, Irfan Khan scalped three wickets while Akif Javed and Haris Rauf scalped two wickets each. This is Pakistan's first 50-over game since the Champions Trophy 2025, where they were embarrassingly knocked out in the group stage. Pakistan were demolished 4-1 by New Zealand in the recently-concluded T20I series. (LIVE SCORECARD)
