BEIJING :Belgian Bart Swings beat rivals in a blistering skate rounding the final corner of the men's mass start at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday to win his country's first Winter Games gold medal in 74 years.
Netherlands' Irene Schouten has won gold in the women's speed skating mass start in a race that sparked into life on the final lap. Schouten was in second place with just metres to go after Canada's Ivanie Blondin had taken the lead from her when the Dutch athlete ran wide on a corner.
Irene Schouten won a third speed skating gold medal in Beijing with a brilliant sprint finish in the women's mass start. Schouten lived up to her title as 'Queen of the Ice' by adding the mass start gold to the 3000m and 5000m titles she already won for the Netherlands at the Games.
