Pargat Singh's boundary in a super over lifted Canada to a thrilling win over Namibia on Sunday in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 play.
Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria came hard at premier Pakistani batters Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan for their poor performances in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy, slamming the former for his lack of "intent" against big oppositions and piling up runs majorly against smaller nations. It was a Champions Trophy to forget for Babar and Rizwan, who had forgettable outings against Bangladesh and arch-rivals India, scoring 87 runs (with a half-century) and 49 runs respectively in two matches so far. While Babar's sluggish knock of 64 in 90 balls against New Zealand while chasing 321 generated massive criticism, Rizwan repeated the same conservative approach with a sluggish 46 in 77 balls against India, which though helped Pakistan stitch a century stand, it could only take them to a final score of 241 runs. The result of such sluggishness is: Pakistan knocked out of their home tournament within a matter of five days.
Rehman Zaid is from Muscat and Fatima is from Oman. They waited for hours to catch a glimpse of India's superstar cricketers here to turn a long-cherished dream into reality. Rarely fans from such cricketing outposts get to see Indian players up close, but once they got a chance the supporters returned home with some precious memorabilia. There were fans from India, of course, but among the 200-plus supporters assembled at the ICC Cricket Academy were Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Oman, UK and USA citizens - mostly of Indian origin.
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, the winning captain of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, spoke on how batting of openers Fakhar Zaman and a more "mature" Babar Azam will help the hosts in their title defence starting from February 19 onwards. Pakistan will kickstart the Champions Trophy with the tournament opener against New Zealand at Karachi on February 19. This time around, Pakistan is going with the duo of Fakhar, the team's centurion in the 2017 final against arch-rivals India, and Babar as openers.

Babar Azam needs to fire if Pakistan are to do well in Champions Trophy 2025. After failures in recent World Cups (both ODIs and T20Is), the Champions Trophy 2025 at home will be an acid test for the Mohammad Rizwan-led side to prove their mettle. Babar Azam is a big factor in their scheme of things. In fact, Babar Azam has been zeroed in on to open the innings for Pakistan after Saim Ayub was ruled out due to injury. The former Pakistan captain had a decent run in the build-up to the Champions Trophy, but it's nowhere close to being called awe-inspiring.
Former Pakistani wicketkeeper batter Kamran Akmal believes making Babar Azam open is ruining his confidence and Pakistan's team combination. In the absence of Saim Ayub, Babar came out to open for Pakistan alongside Fakhar Zaman during the first match of the ODI tri-series opener against New Zealand. Babar, struggling for form, failed to quench his thirst for runs and returned to the dressing room after a ragged 10(23). Kamran feels Babar's confidence and the team combination are suffering due to the current lineup.
Newly-crowned champions India dominated the ICC's 'Team of the Tournament' for the just-concluded women's Under-19 T20 World Cup with four players from the country, including the swashbuckling G Trisha, finding a place in the line-up. India outclassed South Africa by nine wickets in the final here on Sunday to defend the title that they had first won in 2023. The hard-hitting Trisha, who was named Player of the Tournament, her opening partner G Kamalini along with left-arm spin pair of Vaishnavi Sharma and Ayushi Shukla made it to the team, the ICC said in a statement.
