Cricket might not be as popular in British Columbia as it is elsewhere in the world, but 17-year-old Arnav Sekhri says the game is catching on in Canada.
The big-hitting Jake Fraser McGurk and Matthew Short are likely to be Australia's travelling reserves for the T20 World Cup which begins on June 1 in the Americas. The 22-year-old McGurk has been in blazing form for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. But the top-order batter, who is yet to make his T20I debut, missed out on the 15-member provisional squad because Australia already have an established top three in David Warner, Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh. Batting all-rounder Short, on the other hand, played nine of Australia's last 14 T20Is, opening in five of them and he was also the Big Bash League player of the tournament in back-to-back seasons. ]"Australia's chair of selectors George Bailey had suggested that Australia would carry just one reserve to the Caribbean when the provisional squad was announced, but they are likely to add a second with the in-form Fraser-McGurk set to be named alongside Short," ESPNCricinfo reported.

The venue and time of India's fixture is yet to be announced. Seventeen of the 20 teams will play warm-up games slated from May 27 till June 1 across the USA and Trinidad and Tobago, the ICC stated. South Africa will be playing an intra-squad match on May 29 in Florida.
Experienced Scott Edwards was on Monday named as the captain of the Netherlands for next month's T20 World Cup, the Royal Dutch Cricket Association announced. The 27-year-old Edwards was elected the skipper despite his modest outings in the recent tri-series, involving hosts Nepal and Namibia. Overall, he has played 56 T20I for the Netherlands, scoring 671 runs at a strike-rate of 122. Indian-origin cricketers – Teja Nidamanuru, Vikram Singh and Aryan Dutt – are also part of the squad.
Pakistan's left-arm fast-bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus and UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem have made it to the shortlist for ICC Men's Player of the Month award for April 2024. Afridi earns the nomination for his wicket-taking endeavours in the side's drawn T20I series against New Zealand at home. Erasmus was a pivotal figure for Namibia as they recorded a notable series victory in Oman. Waseem, also UAE's opening batter, impressed in his side's run to ACC Premier Cup triumph.
Featuring in the T20 World Cup for the third time, Oman on Wednesday named Aqib Ilyas as their skipper for the upcoming edition of the tournament, which will be held across June in the USA and West Indies. "It's a huge responsibility, and I aim to lead the team to many victories," he said following his appointment as the team captain. "We are preparing rigorously for the World Cup, and the recent ACC Premier Cup has provided us with invaluable preparation." Former skipper Zeeshan Maqsood is also part of the 15-member side, having led the team since the 2016 edition.
