Zareen (56kg) knocked out Helena Ismael Bagao of Mozambique to storm into the last eight round of the women's lightweight category winning by RSC (Referee stopping contest).
World champion Nikhat Zareen sailed into the women's 50kg quarterfinals but it was curtains for Shiva Thapa as he crashed out of the men's 63.5kg round of 16 boxing competition at the Commonwealth Games here on Sunday. While Zareen knocked out Helena Ismael Bagao of Mozambique to storm into the last eight round of the women's ightweight category winning by RSC (Refree stopping the contest), Thapa lost 1-4 to world championship bronze medallist Scotland's Reese Lynch to make a disappointing exit from the Games.

Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen will start her campaign in the women's 50kg light flyweight category against a lesser-known Helena Ismael Bagao of Mozambique on Sunday. A win against Helena will put the 21-year-old two-time Strandja Boxing tournament gold medallist in the quarterfinal against Helen Jones of Wales. Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain is also expected to comfortably sail into the quarterfinals of the women's 70kg light middleweight category. She begins against unfancied Ariane Nicholson of New Zealand on Saturday.
Nikhat will open her campaign in the women's 48-50kg light flyweight category against Helena Ismael Bagao of Mozambique on Sunday. A victory would see her pitted against another easy opponent in Helen Jones of Wales in the quarterfinals. Lovlina will also be up against the lesser-known Ariane Nicholson of New Zealand in her opening light middle weight (66-70kg) bout on Saturday, and a win will pit her against Gold Coast silver medallist Rosie Eccles of Wales in the quarterfinals.
