ABU DHABI : Lando Norris led a McLaren front row sweep in qualifying for the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Saturday with the team perfectly placed to win their first Formula One constructors' title since 1998.
Lando Norris claimed an eighth pole position of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton suffered an early elimination in his final qualifying as a Mercedes driver.
Paris Saint-Germain were denied by a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing as the Ligue 1 leaders were held to a 0-0 draw at Auxerre on Friday ahead of a crucial match in their Champions League campaign. It was a second successive domestic draw for PSG off the back of a damaging 1-0 defeat away to Bayern Munich in European competition at the end of last month. Luis Enrique's team remain unbeaten in Ligue 1 and are now eight points clear of their nearest challengers, although Monaco and Marseille will each have the opportunity to cut that gap to five points over the course of the weekend.
Ademola Lookman's 87th-minute winner sent Atalanta to the Serie A summit with a dramatic 2-1 victory over AC Milan.
British driver Lando Norris led Australian team-mate Oscar Piastri in second practice on Friday as McLaren turned up the heat in their bid to secure the constructors' title at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc had topped the opening practice session at the Yas Marina Circuit ahead of Norris and Lewis Hamilton, but the Monegasque driver was then penalised for taking a new battery pack on his car. Leclerc's 10-place grid penalty for Sunday's race compromises the Italian team's bid to capture a first constructors' title since 2008.
Charles Leclerc topped the times for Ferrari ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton, in his final race weekend with Mercedes, in Friday's opening practice at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Leclerc's speed was a fillip for Ferrari as they seek to overturn a 21-point deficit behind championship leaders McLaren in Sunday's race, but they suffered a heavy setback as Leclerc required a new battery pack on his car which brought with it a 10-place grid penalty. The Monegasque clocked a best lap in one minute and 24.321 seconds to outpace Norris by 0.221 at the Yas Marina Circuit with Hamilton adrift by four-tenths ahead of Mercedes team-mate George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly.
Charles Leclerc says having Lewis Hamilton in the other half of the Ferrari garage next season "is going to be crazy". Seven-time world champion Hamilton is preparing to end his glittering 12-year spell with Mercedes at this weekend's season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, before joining Leclerc at the 'Prancing horse' stable. "With Lewis it's going to be crazy because he is such a talented driver," Leclerc told AFP at the Yas Marina circuit on Thursday. "He's the most successful driver in Formula One and so it's going to be a great challenge to measure myself against him in the same car.
