Ace Indian squash player Joshna Chinappa outwitted New Zealand's Kaitlyn Watts 3-1 to progress to the women's singles quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. The 18-time national champion kept her calm to recover from a mid-game slump to prevail 11-8 9-11 11-4 11-6 against Watts to set up a last-eight clash with Canada's Hollie Naughton. Naughton beat Malaysia's Aifa Azman 3-0 in another match.
The Indian men's pair of Dinesh Kumar and Sunil Bahadur defeated England to advance to the quarter-finals of the lawn bowls event in the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. Dinesh Kumar (skip) and Sunil Bahadur (lead) won 18-15. The duo was 10-5 ahead after the eighth end and thwarted English pair's effort to make a comeback.

Olympic silver medallist Mirabai was expected to win a gold medal on the second day of the competition, and she did it with remarkable ease, shattering four records in a power-packed performance. Literally owning the stage, Mirabai outshone the field by lifting 201kg (88kg+113kg), which was a humongous 29kg more than the second-placed Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa's 172kg (76kg+96kg) from Mauritius, while Canada's Hannah Kaminski was behind by another kilogram (74kg+97kg). HIGHLIGHTS - DAY 2While others began in the 60kg range, Mirabai straightaway lifted 86kg in her first attempt to pull away from the field, and matched her personal best of 88kg in the second attempt. She went for a record-breaking 90kg, but could not succeed. In clean and jerk, she began by lifting 109kg and that successful attempt sealed her and India's first gold. She returned for a successful 113kg lift, but could not complete the 115kg in her final try.

Indian weightlifter Gururaja won a bronze medal with a combined lift of 269kg in the Men's 61 kg final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday. "I dedicate my medal to my wife and thank all my supporters. I am elated that Sanket won a silver and I clinched the second medal for India by winning a bronze. I could have done better though 269 kg is good. I had fallen ill recently but I recovered & gave my best," said Gururaja to ANI.
