India's Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the men's singles second round with a comfortable straight-game win over Vietnam's Phat Le Duc in the badminton competition of the Asian Games on Monday. Srikanth, a 2021 world championships silver medallist, outclassed Le Duc 21-10 21-10 in 29 minutes to set up a clash with Korea's Lee Yun Gyu. Commonwealth Games gold medallists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also sailed into the men's doubles pre-quarterfinals with a 21-11 21-16 win over Hong Kong's Chow Hin Long and Lui Chun Wai. Indian archers showed tenacity and authority in equal measure to storm into the quarterfinals in all the six team events of the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Monday. The Indians played five team elimination rounds and dropped just one set on the way to their respective quarterfinal matches. India have got a bye into the quarters by virtue of topping the qualifications in the women's compound team event. Star shuttlers HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu received first-round byes as India were handed a mixed draw in the individual events of badminton competition at the Asian Games on Sunday. World No. 7 Prannoy, who missed the team championships final due to a back injury will hope to recover in time as he is pitted against Batdavaa Munkhbat of Mongolia in the second round, while Kidambi Srikanth, a former world No. 1, will face Le Duc Phat of Vietnam in the opening round. World championships bronze medallist Prannoy, seeded fifth, might face Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia or world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the quarterfinal.

Asian Games: India, South Korea Play Out 1-1 Draw In Women's Hockey

The Indian women's hockey team was held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea but the Savita Punia-led unbeaten side still continued to lead its pool in the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sunday. Navneet Kaur (44th min) scored the equaliser for the higher-ranked India after Cho Hyejin (12th) had put South Korea ahead at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium. Thanks to the draw, the Indian team, currently ranked sixth in the world, held onto the top spot in Pool A by goal difference over 12-ranked Korea.
