A dominant India roared back to winning ways with a 5-0 mauling of Malaysia in a round-robin fixture of the 2023 Asian Champions Trophy hockey here on Sunday. Local favourite Karthi Selvam (15th minute) and vice-captain Hardik Singh (32') were on target, along with skipper Harmanpreet Singh (42'), Gurjant Singh (53') and Jugraj Singh (54'). The result took India to the top of the table, helping them inch closer to sealing a semifinals' berth. India began the first quarter on an attacking note, coming close to penetrating the Malaysian box and creating some very clear scoring chances. Meanwhile, Malaysia's Fitri Saari was green-carded for a harsh interception in the eighth minute.

Hosts India returned to winning ways with a 5-0 victory over Malaysia in their Asian Champions Trophy match on Sunday. The city's Karthi Selvam gave India the lead right at the end of the first quarter with his 15-minute field goal off a fine Harmanpreet Singh pass. Hardik Singh doubled the lead for the home team when he scored off a penalty corner in the beginning of the third quarter (32nd minute), putting the Malaysians under tremendous pressure. Having missed a penalty corner, Harmanpreet made amends after India were afforded another opportunity, the skipper finding the back of the net to add to Malaysia's misery in the 42nd minute. Gurjant Singh made it 4-0 with his 53rd minute field goal before Jugraj Singh added another in the next minute to complete the rout.

Star Indian shuttler HS Prannoy stormed into his second final of the season with a comprehensive straight-game win over young compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat at the Australian Open Super 500 badminton tournament in Sydney on Saturday. The 31-year-old Prannoy rode on his power and precision to outwit the 21-year-old Rajawat 21-18 21-12 in the men's singles semifinals. "It is very satisfying (to win), because it is always tough to play continuously against the top 10 players and beating them and if you look at the men's singles section, somebody from 30s and 40s are also very tough these days," Prannoy said after the win.
