Three-time champions India failed to defend their Sultan of Johor Cup junior hockey title, losing 3-6 to world no.2 Germany in the semifinal at Johor Bahru in Malaysia on Friday. Oman will lock horns with Nepal in the Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2023 final on November 5, with the match scheduled to commence at 10:45 AM IST. The Oman cricket team won all three matches of Group A, which featured Nepal, Malaysia and Singapore alongside them. In the semi-final, they defeated Bahrain convincingly by 10 wickets to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 and seal the final berth in the ongoing qualifier tournament. On the other hand, Nepal won two and lost once in Group A. They got the better of Singapore and Malaysia comfortably before going down to Oman in a narrow five-run defeat. Ahead of the final, the Nepal cricket team overcame UAE by eight wickets to advance to the T20 World Cup 2024 and the final of the Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier 2023.

Already through to the semifinals, India thrashed South Korea 5-0 with Salima Tete scoring a brace in their last league match to maintain their unbeaten run and top the table in the women's Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Ranchi on Thursday. Salima scored in the sixth and 36th minutes while Navneet Kaur struck from a penalty corner -- also in the 36th minute. Vandana Katariya (49th) and Neha (60th) were the other goal scorers for India. With 15 points from an all-win league campaign, India topped the six-team table and face South Korea again in the semifinals on Saturday. South Korea ended at fourth spot with seven points.
An in-form India eked out a narrow 2-1 win over Japan to register their fourth straight win and storm into the semifinals of the women's Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament on Tuesday. After two goalless quarters, Navneet Kaur (31st minute) and Sangita Kumari (47th) scored for India, while Japan's lone goal came from the stick of Kana Urata (37th). It was a match between two undefeated sides in the tournament and it lived up to the billing. India had earlier defeated Thailand 7-1 in their opener before getting the better of Malaysia and China 5-0 and 2-1 respectively. The Japanese too were undefeated coming into the match, having registered wins over Malaysia 3-0, South Korea 4-0 and Thailand 4-0 respectively.
