WTCR all set for a Middle Eastern adventure as 2022 calendar is completed

The 2022 WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup will be decided by two events in the Middle East when Bahrain and Saudi Arabia host the all-action series from Discovery Sports Events and the FIA for the first time later this season. With the full support of the Bahrain Motor Federation and Saudi Arabian Automobile and Motorcycle Federation respectively, WTCR Race of Bahrain is scheduled to take place from November 10-12 as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship 8 Hours of Bahrain weekend, with the WTCR Race of Saudi Arabia night race event following from November 25-27.

Two world tour badminton events -- Hong Kong Open Super 500 and Macau Open Super 300 -- have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 restrictions in the two countries, world governing body BWF said on Thursday. While the Macau Open was slated from November 1 to 6, the Hong Kong Open was scheduled to be held in Kowloon from November 8 to 13. However, the Badminton World Federation said it was informed by the governing body of the two countries that hosting an event will not be viable under the current situation.

COVID-19 Was "A Disaster" For Badminton, Says BWF Chief

Badminton is finally emerging from a pandemic that was "threatening the sport", world federation chief Thomas Lund told AFP, but China's zero-Covid policy means it may face further damaging disruption. Badminton World Federation secretary general Lund said the coronavirus pandemic made 2020 and 2021 "a disaster" for the game, forcing tournament cancellations worldwide and slashing finances to the bone. The situation is gradually returning to normal and in June the BWF announced an expanded calendar for the next four years that adds four more tournaments to the world tour.
