Boxing's already uncertain Olympic future was thrown into further jeopardy after the sport's Asian governing body voted against leaving the suspended International Boxing Association (IBA) to join the rival association. The polling was held via a secret ballot on Saturday with 21 countries voted to continue with IBA, while 14 cast their ballot in favour of joining World Boxing (WB), a breakaway body which is aiming for recognition of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). There was one invalid vote.

The repechage route for Reetika was closed by American Kennedy Blades, who defeated the Kyrgyzstan wrestler Aiperi 8-6 in an energy-sapping semifinal. Reetika's defeat means India's campaign at the Games ended with six medals - one short of its tally at the Tokyo edition. Up against the Asian Games champion and World Championship silver medallist, Reetika managed to restrict her formidable rival to standing wrestling but eventually lost the bout on criteria after it ended 1-1.

The referee stopped the contest with 29 seconds left in the second round as Reetika gained a 10-point lead with the final score reading 12-2 in favour of the Indian. The burly Reetika gained upper-hand with 4-0 lead in the first round after getting an early leg-hold followed by a flip.
