Sunil Kumar kept India in hunt for its first Greco Roman medal in 13 years at the Asian Games by reaching the 87kg bronze play-off even as three of his compatriots exited the tournament on Wednesday. Sunil began with a close 4-3 win over China's Fei Ping and followed that up with a technical superiority victory over Tajikistan's Sukhrob Abdulkhaev, winning the quarterfinal in the first period itself. Indian boxer Parveen Hooda kicked off her 19th Asian Games campaign with a win and secured her spot in the last eight in Hangzhou on Friday. Parveen won 5:0 on points against local hope Xu Zichun in the women's 57kg round of 16 bout at Hangzhou 2023. She maintained amazing footwork across the three rounds and managed to keep a constant distance between herself and her opponent. Parveen will square off against Uzbekistan's Sitora Turdibekova in the quarterfinal on October 1, with a semifinal berth and medal in sight.

Seasoned Indian boxer Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) crashed out of the Asian Games, beaten comprehensively by Kyrgyzstan Askat Kultaev while Sanjeet (92kg) also suffered a first round exit. A record six-time Asian Championship medallist, Shiva, who received a first round bye, was beaten by Kultaev's relentless attacks and pace in a draining pre-quarterfinal bout. It is a shocking loss as Shiva was a strong medal contender. He was even handed a favourable draw. Kultaev started off aggressively, his onslaught catching Shiva off guard. The Indian took a few seconds to regroup and connect his powerful hooks.

Indian boxers Sachin Siwach (57kg) and Narender Berwal (+92kg) produced dominating shows to sail into the pre-quarterfinals and quarterfinals respectively at the Asian Games on Tuesday. Sachin notched up a 5-0 win over Indonesia's Asri Udin, while Narender knocked out Elchoro Uulu Oomatbek of Kyrgyzstan in round 1 itself. Sachin managed to dominate the match from the beginning wading off flurry of attacks from the Indonesian with ease using his flashy footwork.
