The fastest man in the world is set to be crowned at the men’s 100m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics tonight (August 4).
Two-time world champion Shericka Jackson withdrew from heats for the Olympic 200m on Sunday in another hammer blow for the Jamaican team. The withdrawal of Jackson, who had already pulled out of the 100m won by St Lucia's Julien Alfred on Saturday, follows that of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from the blue riband event. Jackson's non-appearance in the heats was only evident by the late addition of "DNS" (Did Not Start) alongside her name on the official start sheet.
PARIS : Grant Holloway looked imperious in the sprint hurdles qualifying on Sunday but U.S. compatriot Freddie Crittenden opted for a circuitous route to the final, while Jamaican defending champion Hansle Parchment scraped through in extraordinary circumstances.
PARIS : American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone got a winning start to her 400 metres hurdles Olympic title defence on Sunday, preserving her strength and jogging through the finish to advance from the opening round in Paris.
PARIS : The United States' Gabby Thomas cruised into the women's semi-finals of the 200 metres at the Paris Olympics, showing she is the woman to beat with the quickest time of Sunday morning's preliminary round.
PARIS : Jamaica's world champion Shericka Jackson withdrew from the 200 metres at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, less than a month after she suffered an injury at a tune-up meet in Hungary.
PARIS : All eyes were on Sha'Carri Richardson as she attempted to end a long American wait for Olympic women's 100 metres gold on Saturday - but it was Julien Alfred, from an island of 180,000 people, who stole the show.
