Sumit Nagal, Ranked 96th, To Play Czech Republic's Tomas Machac In Australian Open Round 1

India's highest-ranked singles tennis player Sumit Nagal will take on Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic in the opening round of the Australian Open, beginning here on Sunday. The 27-year-old Nagal, currently 96th on the ATP, made it to the main draw of the season-opening Grand Slam by virtue of being among the 104 highest-ranked players in the world. The player from Haryana, then ranked 137th, had scored a stunning straight-sets win over No. 27 Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik in the opening round of the Australian Open last year before going down to China's Juncheng Shang.

"Gautam Gambhir Is A Hypocrite": Ex-India Star Drops Bombshell After Border-Gavaskar Trophy Disaster

Former Indian cricket team star Manoj Tiwary launched a scathing attack on coach Gautam Gambhir as he called him a 'hypocrite' following the Test series loss against Australia. Under Gambhir's coaching, India lost the ODI series in Sri Lanka and also slumped to a humiliating Test series loss against New Zealand at home. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss led to more criticism for Gambhir with Tiwary saying that he has not shown the kind of coaching that was expected. He also went on to criticise the appointments of bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

No Longer Running National Camps, Athletics Federation Of India To Monitor Athletes For Dope Testing

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Wednesday brushed aside concerns that more doping cases could embarrass the country in future following closure of national camps, saying that it will continue to monitor the athletes and share relevant information with the NADA. The AFI decided to end national camps after the Paris Olympics, except for the relay teams which will still be under the direct supervision of the national body. For a long time, AFI has a policy of not picking non-campers for relay teams in view of the fact that they cannot tested frequently. The athletes can now train at the National Centers of Excellence which are under Sports Authority of India (SAI) or they can choose private bodies like the JSW, Reliance and Tata. They can also train at centers attached with states or with Army, Navy or Air Force.

LA Olympics In My Vision, But Taking One Step At A Time: Lovlina Borgohain

Lovlina Borgohain is eyeing a third straight summer Olympics but will take one-step at a time from here on. Lovlina, who won a bronze at Tokyo Olympics but returned empty-handed from Paris 2024, said Los Angeles 2028 was very much in her plans. “Tokyo was during COVID times. Paris was a real learning curve. I did my best and have no regrets that I could not win a medal. For every athlete, there are lessons to be learnt and I want to be wiser leading into LA,” Lovlina told SAI Media in an interaction on the sidelines of the ASMITA Women's Under-17 football final at the SAI campus in Guwahati on Sunday afternoon.

Rohit Sharma's 'Selfless' Act During Australia Test Series Faces Brutal Criticism: "Why Should A Youngster..."

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma had a horrible outing during the recently concluded Test series against Australia where he scored just 31 runs in 3 matches. After missing the first match, he failed to score big in the second match and even dropping himself to No. 6 did not help his case. The situation was so bad that he opted out of the final Test match in Sydney - an act that was hailed as 'selfless' by his teammates and some of the experts. However, according to a report by Indian Express, the gesture was not appreciated by everyone as a former player gave a brutal verdict on Rohit's decision.

"Offended Sunil Gavaskar": Cricket Australia Blasted By Australia's World Cup Winning Captain For Border Gavaskar Trophy Snub

After Australia completed a 3-1 win over India in the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney on Sunday, controversy followed. The legendary Sunil Gavaskar expressed his displeasure after not being invited to present the trophy, named after him and Allan Border, to Australia following their win over India in the high-voltage five-match rubber. Australia reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar trophy after 10 years with a six-wicket win over India in the fifth and final Test. Border presented the trophy to the home team but Gavaskar, despite being at the venue at the same time, was inexplicably ignored.

Massive Changes In Australia Squad After BGT Win, No Pat Cummins For Sri Lanka Test Series

Australia recalled opener Nathan McSweeney and called up all-rounder Cooper Connolly on Thursday for the first time in a spin-heavy Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, with Steve Smith captain. Regular skipper Pat Cummins stays home for the birth of his second child while fellow fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is rested after picking up a calf injury. There is no place for the dropped Mitch Marsh in the 16-man squad. McSweeney was axed after just three matches for the fourth India Test after failing to justify his inclusion at the top of the order and replaced by fearless 19-year-old Sam Konstas.
