Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of the biggest players in Indian cricket right now, are at the proverbial crossroads of their career. Their class is unquestionable but their current form is not. Both the senior stars have had a tumultuous run after the T20 world Cup 2024. Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison has drawn a striking parallel between India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, emphasising the irreplaceable nature of the fast bowler. Harmison believes that if Bumrah is forced to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy due to injury, it would be akin to a FIFA World Cup without Ronaldo at his peak. With less than 10 days to go till the start of the Champions Trophy 2025, hosts Pakistan have a few selection headaches to solve. One, in particular, is the slot of an opener, where Pakistan are trying out star batter Babar Azam in recent games. With talented 22-year-old opener Saim Ayub ruled out due to injury, Pakistan have seemingly promoted Babar up the order. The move has come under big criticism, with former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali slamming the decision.
West Indies legend Chris Gayle has backed "world-class" batter India skipper Rohit Sharma to score big runs for his side in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 to be held later this month in Pakistan and Dubai. Rohit, who was struggling to score runs in Test series against New Zealand (home) and Australia (away), failed to had a good outing in the ODI series opener against England in Nagpur. However, he returned to form with a bang and scored a match-setting knock of 119 in India's four-wicket win in Cuttack on Sunday.
