Indian superstar Virat Kohli has backed newly-appointed Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar to lead the side for a long time. Kohli, who has been with RCB since IPL's inception in 2008, led the franchise for more than a decade and remains its face. Patidar has succeeded Faf du Plessis as captain with the South African moving to Delhi Capitals this season. "This guy is going to lead you for a long time. He is going to do a great job. He has got everything that is required (to succeed)," Kohli said in his address to RCB's loyal fans at the team's Unbox event here on Monday.
Rishabh Pant is undeniably one of India's most important players in Test cricket, but did not have the best time with the bat during the disastrous 1-3 series loss at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. In fact, Pant was heavily criticised by legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar for getting out trying to play a fancy shot during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Pant has now done a mimicry of Gavaskar's rant, and the video has gone viral on social media.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday. The meeting, attended by team owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain Rishabh Pant, was a courtesy visit where the Chief Minister extended his best wishes for the upcoming IPL season. During the meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath praised Lucknow Super Giants' past performances, highlighting the team's talent, discipline, and sportsmanship. He expressed confidence that the players would give their best and strive to lift the IPL 2025 trophy. “Lucknow Super Giants have showcased remarkable performances in previous seasons. This team represents dedication, discipline, and the true spirit of the game. I am hopeful that this season, too, the players will demonstrate their skills and make the state proud,” the Chief Minister said.
Chennai Super Kings will be looking to clinch their record sixth title as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side start their campaign in IPL 2025. The focus will once again be on MS Dhoni as rumours surrounding the former India captain's future continues to dominate headlines. However, with a fifth-place finish last year, both Dhoni and CSK will be looking for a much better show. CSK retained Gaikwad, Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube ahead of the mega auction and then went on to buy a number of big-name players including veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Former Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly urged Rohit Sharma to take more responsibility - both as skipper as well as batter - in the upcoming Test series against England. Rohit had a disastrous outing the series against Australia but the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph has more or less guaranteed his position as India captain. Ganguly praised Rohit's skills in white-ball cricket but quickly pointed out that India have not been that great in Test cricket off late. In a recent interaction, Ganguly sent a massive message to Rohit and asked him to turn things around for the side.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was left amused by his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon's hilarious comment on the Champions Trophy 2025 final during their meeting on Monday. During his address, Luxon said that he deliberately avoided to talk about cricket and the Champions Trophy final in order to prevent a "diplomatic incident". India defeated New Zealand in the summit clash to claim the Champions Trophy 2025 title in Dubai. Luxon also mentioned the 3-0 Test series win for New Zealand in India last year that ultimately knocked the Rohit Sharma-led side out of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final race.
Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was left fuming after the paparazzi and fans tried to click pictures of his daughter Samaira at a parking lot. In a video shared on social media platform Instagram, Rohit was seen walking towards his car along with his daughter. However, a group started to take some pictures and Rohit quickly pulled Samaira behind him to shield her from the cameras. The India captain was visibly upset with the people and helped Samaira get into the car. When things settled down, he calmed down and even posed for some pictures. Rohit will be part of the Mumbai Indians side as they start their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
