BANGALORE : Serie A might consider India as a potential host for the Italian Super Cup, in an effort to broaden the tournament's global audience, the Italian league's commercial and marketing director Michele Ciccarese has said.
IPL 2025 is set to get underway in just a few days, and could be the platform for many players to make a case for a spot in the Indian team. One such player, who has slightly fallen out of favour in recent months, will be pacer Mohammed Siraj. The 31-year-old has lost his place in both white-ball formats, and was not part of India's Champions Trophy-winning squad. However, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels the IPL could be a good chance for Siraj to get back in the reckoning.
Labelled 'silent hero' of India's ICC Champions Trophy triumph, Shreyas Iyer was crucial to India's success in Dubai. Despite there being a debate over his place in the team, with certain actions by the management suggesting that he wasn't a certainty at the No. 4 spot heading into the Champions Trophy, Iyer let his bat do the talking and contributed heavily towards the team's success. It's strange to see that a player of Iyer's caliber isn't a part of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) central contract. But, he doesn't feel it's important for him to personally send a message.
Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh suspended secretary general Hemanta Kumar Kalita and Treasurer Digvijay Singh on Tuesday after an independent investigation led by Justice (Retd.) Sudhir Kumar Jain found the duo guilty of "serious charges of financial irregularities and mismanagement of funds". In a letter to Kalita and Singh, the BFI president said, "This letter is to formally inform you that pursuant to a complaint received from the Sports Authority of India (SAl) regarding alleged financial irregularities and mismanagement of funds, the President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) appointed Hon'ble Mr. Justice (Retd.) Sudhir Kumar Jain, former judge of the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi, to conduct an independent investigation into the matter."
Indian shuttlers Ayush Shetty and S Sankar Muthuswamy Subramanian advanced to the main draw of the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament with commanding performances in the qualifiers here on Tuesday. Shetty eased past Cholan Kayan of England 21-12, 21-15 in 42 minutes to secure his spot in the main round. The 19-year-old Indian will face Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in his opening-round clash on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Muthuswamy had to battle through two rounds, first beating China's Yuehang Wang 21-13, 21-4 in just 23 minutes before overcoming compatriot Tharun Mannepalli 21-7, 21-10 in the final qualifying round.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) may have finished runners-up in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but they lit up the tournament with some of the most sensational power-hitting ever seen in T20 cricket. In IPL 2025, that power-hitting department has only been bolstered, making SRH one of the favourites to make the playoffs, if not go all the way. The Sunrisers wrote a chapter in the evolution of T20 batting in 2024, and could well set more mind-boggling records in 2025.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may consider making changes to the 'family diktat' introduced after the Test series defeat against Australia, according to a report by India Today. The report claimed that if players wish to have their families around for an extended period during an overseas tour, they will have to apply for permission. The 10-point guideline from BCCI restricted the time families were allowed to spend with the players during any foreign tour. However, recently, Virat Kohli has expressed his disappointment and stressed on the importance of players having their loved ones close to them during high-pressure situations - particularly during overseas tours.
