Virat Kohli pulled off a string of records en-route his second successive century of the IPL 2023 against Gujarat Titans at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday night, but Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) failed to make it to the play-offs of the tournament as Titans opener Shubman Gill helped his side pull off a brilliant six-wicket win with five balls to spare, leaving the home supporters stunned. Gill not only matched Kohli shot for shot, he ended up with a better strike rate that was crucial to his team's near-perfect chase. He was ably supported by Vijay Shankar, who came in as an impact player and hammered 53 off 35 balls. His innings was laced with seven boundaries and a couple of sixes.
India's G Sathiyan advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of men's doubles and mixed doubles alongside Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra respectively at the World Table Tennis Championships in Durban on Monday. Sathiyan and Sharath beat the Hungarian-Danish combine of Bence Majoros and Anders Lind 11-5, 11-4, 15-13 in a round of 32 contest. Later on Monday, Sathiyan teamed up with Manika to outplay Brazil's Eric Jouti and Lucakumahara 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 in a round of 32 mixed doubles clash.
Mumbai Indians had a day to remember on Sunday as they registered a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last league stage match. However, the main reason of happiness came after Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second match on Sunday, which paved way for the five-time champions into the Playoffs of IPL 2023. MI, who have now qualified with a total of 16 points, were dependent on GT's win over RCB. The team erupted in joy to celebrate their entry into the knockout stage of the tournament.
The Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL 2023 came to an end on Sunday after a loss to defending champions Gujarat Titans in their last league phase match. Despite a record seventh IPL ton by Virat Kohli, RCB could not end on the winning side. After Kohli's 61-ball 101 formed to bedrock of RCB's 197-run total batting first, GT chased down the target in 19.1 overs. Shubman Gill's 52-ball 104* played a major part in that win. Gill's innings consisted of eight sixes and fours whereas Kohli hit 13 fours and one six. The number of sixes was a "significant difference" between the two innings, according to IPL-winning coach Tom Moody.
Virat Kohli says he's playing his best Twenty20 cricket again but at 34 the superstar batsman is running out of time to win the Indian Premier League. Kohli scored another century for Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday -- his second in as many matches -- and he now has seven IPL tons, more than any other player. But his 101 not out wasn't enough. Gujarat Titans won by six wickets as they, Chennai, Mumbai and Lucknow went through to the playoffs of the world's biggest T20 tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli surpassed Luke Wright to become the batter with joint-third-highest centuries in T20 cricket. Virat accomplished this feat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match. In the match, Virat scored 101* in just 61 balls. His knock consisted of 13 fours and a six. In 14 matches of IPL 2023, he has scored 639 runs at an average of 53.25 and a strike rate above 139. He has scored two centuries and six fifties this season, with best score of 101*. He is the third-highest run-scorer in the league so far.
Former West Indies batter Chris Gayle believes that Kolkata Knight Riders' sensational player Rinku Singh, who had a spectacular IPL 2023 season, will get a huge hike in his salary next year. Lucknow took the crease to bat first and scored 176 runs, with Nicolas Pooran's 58 runs (30b, 4x4, 5x6) being the highlight of the innings. Kolkata's innings showed the hunger to win their final game at home but they fell short by one run, scoring 175 runs with Rinku Singh almost pulling off a final over comeback win. He scored 67 runs in 33 deliveries (6x4, 4x6).
