SL vs AFG, 3rd ODI: Dushmantha Chameera Stars As Sri Lanka Thrash Afghanistan To Win Series 2-1

Half-centuries by Sri Lanka openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka made short work of Afghanistan in a nine-wicket drubbing that clinched a 2-1 ODI series win for the hosts Wednesday. Sri Lanka eased to 120 with 34 overs to spare in Hambantota, after a fast-bowling attack led by man-of-the-match Dushmantha Chameera had demolished the hapless Afghan top order. It was just the boost Sri Lanka needed before heading off for a qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe, with two remaining slots up for grabs for the World Cup.

"Big Mistake": On R Ashwin's Omission From WTC Final, Michael Vaughan, Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting React

For World Test Championship final, India left out Ravichandran Ashwin from their side on Wednesday as skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field against Australia at the Oval. Off-spinner Ashwin is the world's top-ranked Test bowler, but with overcast conditions and a green-tinged pitch promising to assist the quicks, India opted for an attack of four seamers and spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

"Batters Don't Want To Be Exposed To...": Ex-India Star On 'Surprising' Decision To Bowl vs Australia In WTC Final

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team won the toss and opted to bowl against Australia in the WTC final at the Oval on Wednesday. The match provides a chance for India to end its  decade-long ICC title drought. Talking about the decision, former India player Farokh Engineer made some interesting observatiions. "…India winning the toss, the decision (to bowl first) is a bit surprising but I think the decision was taken because our batsmen do not want to be exposed to the Australian attack on a fresh green track. We are hopeful, Mohd Shami and Siraj are effective. I think they will be effective. It's a bold decision. He (Cheteshwar Pujara) is a key member of the side. So are Virat and Shubman Gill. We have a very good batting lineup. Very good all-round side," Farokh Engineer told ANI.

Kidambi Srikanth Wins; PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy Out Of Singapore Open

India's Kidambi Srikanth made a winning start but PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy were ousted from the Singapore Open Super 750 tournament after suffering contrasting losses in the opening round in Singapore on Tuesday. Srikanth, a 2021 world championships silver medallist, beat Thailand's Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-15 21-19 in the opening round of men's singles competition. He will face Chinese Taipei's Chia Hao Lee, who beat Japan's Kenta Nishimoto in his opening match after being promoted to the main draw from the reserves.

PV Sindhu's Form Not A Concern, She Remains One Of India's Best: Pullela Gopichand

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu's lack of consistency after coming back from an injury should not be a cause of "concern", feels chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand. Sindhu suffered yet another first round exit on Tuesday when she lost to world number 1 Akane Yamaguchi in the Singapore Open. "She's very young in saying that she's just 26-27. It's a good age, there is no reason for concern," Gopichand told PTI in a virtual interaction. A silver medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics and bronze winner in the Tokyo Games, Sindhu suffered an ankle injury in August last year to be slipped out of top-10 in the BWF women's singles rankings. She remained out of action for four months because of that injury.

Najam Sethi To ICC: Pakistan Don't Want To Play In Ahmedabad Unless It's World Cup Final - Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi has intimated his ICC counterpart Greg Barclay about his apprehensions about playing the World Cup match against arch-rivals India at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, according to sources. As it was reported by PTI initially, PCB wants its matches to be scheduled in Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru. Barclay and ICC General Manager Geoff Allardice were recently in Karachi to seek assurance from PCB boss that they won't demand to play their ODI World Cup matches at a neutral venue since ACC is all set to reject its demand of playing Asia Cup on basis of 'Hybrid Model'.

USA Cricket Pins Hopes On Successful Hosting Of MLC To Keep T20 World Cup In Country

The USA Cricket (USAC) on Wednesday asserted that the T20 World Cup 2024 will not be taken away from them due to concerns around lack of proper cricketing infrastructure in the nation, saying a successful conduct of the Major League Cricket (MLC) will remove all the doubts. It has been reported that the International Cricket Council (ICC) might shift the premier tournament, scheduled to be hosted jointly by the USA and the West Indies, to England next year.

"Battle Starts": Mohammed Siraj Faces Off With Marnus Labuschagne On WTC Final Opening Day

Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Siraj provided a good start to the Rohit Sharma-led team on the opening day of the World Test Championship final against the Pat Cummins-led Australia. While Shami got an early wicket of opener Usman Khawaja, Siraj too troubled the Australian batters with his fiery pace. He even had a brief face-off with Australia No. 3 Marnus Labuschagne in the sixth over as he stared at the batter and even exchanged a world or two. Then on  the first ball of the eight over, one of Siraj's delivery took Labuschagne by surprise and hit his thumb.
