Asian Champions Trophy: India Look To Work On Penalty Corner Conversion Rate Against Malaysia

Tournament favourites and three-time champions India would look to work on their penalty corner conversion rate when they take on Malaysia in their next Asian Champions Trophy match in Chennai on Sunday. India struggled visibly when it came to penalty corner conversion rate against Japan on Friday at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium. The Indians earned as many as 15 penalty corners but converted just one despite having a potent force in skipper Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Amit Rohidas and Jugraj Singh.

The Indian cricket spectrum rejoiced after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last month informed that Rishabh Pant resumed his batting practice. It was the first time since his horrific car accident in December last year that Pant put on his batting gear. On December 30, Pant's car crashed on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, with the wicket-keeper batter suffering major burns and injuries on his body. Despite having resumed batting and wicket-keeping, the return date for Pant still seems quite far away. However, if a report is to be believed, Pant is showing good signs of progress during his practice sessions.

Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is exploring the possibility of sending a psychologist with the squad to India to cope with the pressures of the high-profile tournament. However, a final decision in this regard will be taken only after PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf's meeting the captain Babar Azam. Azam is currently playing for Colombo Strikers in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Star athlete Jyothi Yarraji won India's first ever 100m hurdles medal -- a bronze -- at the World University Games while smashing her own national record time at Chengdu on Friday. Another national record holder sprinter, Amlan Borgohain also won India's first ever 200m medal at the World University Games as he picked a bronze medal with a season's best time of 20.55 seconds. Before Friday, India has won just four medals in track and field events at the World University Games. In sprint races, only Dutee Chand had won a medal -- a 100m gold in 2019 edition -- in the World University Games before Yarraji and Borgohain's bronze medals on Friday.

Mumbai City FC Beat Mohammedan Sporting 3-1 In Durand Cup

Mumbai City FC (MCFC) defeated local favourites Mohammedan Sporting 3-1 in the Durand Cup at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday. Playing their first match of the 132nd Durand Cup, the Islanders were three up in the first 35 minutes of the game, but the Black and White brigade made a game of it after their confidence was boosted by a David Lalhlansanga strike. Rostyn Griffiths, Jorge Peryra Diaz and Lalianzuala Chhangte scored for the winners. This was the first match of Group B which also has Jamshedpur FC and the Indian Navy as part of it.

Chess legend Viswanathan Anand on Saturday described 17-year-old Grandmaster D Gukesh overtaking him as the highest-rated Indian player in FIDE rankings as a "historic" achievement and said the teenager is spearheading the country's rise in the sport. On Tuesday, Gukesh posted a win over Azerbaijan's Misratdin Iskandarov in a second round match of the World Cup in Baku to overtake his idol Anand in live world (FIDE) rankings.

World Cup Schedule: Pakistan vs England Game In Kolkata May See Date Change

The Cricket Association of Bengal on Saturday requested ICC recce team about concerns raised by local security agencies with regards to World Cup match between Pakistan and England on November 12 coinciding with Kali Puja. If BCCI and ICC have to accommodate another date change, then Pakistn will have a third change in schedule. This is after rescheduling of India vs Pakistan game (October 14 instead of 15 in Ahmedabad) and Sri Lanka vs Pakistan game (now on October 10 in Hyderabad instead of October 12).

HS Prannoy Reaches Final Of Australian Open After Beating Compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat

Star Indian shuttler HS Prannoy stormed into his second final of the season with a comprehensive straight-game win over young compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat at the Australian Open Super 500 badminton tournament in Sydney on Saturday. The 31-year-old Prannoy rode on his power and precision to outwit the 21-year-old Rajawat 21-18 21-12 in the men's singles semifinals. "It is very satisfying (to win), because it is always tough to play continuously against the top 10 players and beating them and if you look at the men's singles section, somebody from 30s and 40s are also very tough these days," Prannoy said after the win.
