Indian opener Devdutt Padikkal on Thursday confirmed he will be out of action for three to four weeks owing to a fracture he sustained in his thumb. Padikkal, who played two T20Is for India in 2021, suffered the injury during the Deodhar Trophy earlier this month. The injury has kept Padikkal away from the ongoing Maharaja KSCA T20 trophy here, for which he was picked by Gulbarga Mystics.
Indian javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena's participation in the World Championships in Budapest was on Wednesday rendered doubtful after his one-month visa was cancelled by the Hungarian embassy in New Delhi. Rising Indian motorsport star Jaden R Pariat has been invited to the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) selection trials, as one of the best young talents in the Asia Pacific and Oceania region. The prestigious Ferrari Academy selection trials begin on September 23 at Sepang. The drivers will take part in track walks, engineer meetings, fitness testing, and importantly time behind the wheel of a Tatuus FIA F4-T421 machine on track. The top five drivers then head to the FDA Scouting World Finals in Maranello.
Left-arm India seamer Jaydev Unadkat will join his Saurashtra teammate Cheteshwar Pujara at Sussex for three games in the County Championship in September. Unadkat played for India in the two-Test series against the West Indies last month. “Jaydev will be available for selection for the games against Durham, Leicestershire and Derbyshire as Sussex look to secure promotion to the first division,” Sussex said in a release. While Pujara has captained Sussex in the previous season, it will be the first County stint for Unadkat, makes it a rare instance for two Indian players representing the same side on English domestic circuit.

Mohit Kumar created history after winning the U20 World Wrestling Championships. He defeated Eldar Akhmadudinov 9-8 in a 61 kg freestyle event in Jordan. Mohit Kumar's mother said he took initial steps in wrestling when he was in primary school. "We are happy. The entire village and the country is happy. He started going for wrestling training when he was in class II or III,” she said.
India's campaign in the ISSF World Championship began on an unimpressive note as none of the six 10m air pistol shooters competing in Baku on Thursday were able to clinch a 2024 Paris Olympic quota, though the men clinched a consolation bronze medal in the team event. The men's 10m air pistol team, comprising Shiva Narwal (579 points), Sarabjot Singh (578) and Arjun Singh Cheema (577) clinched the bronze medal with an aggregate score of 1734. The Chinese team of Zhang Bowen (587), Liu Junhui (582) and Xie Yu (580) took the gold medal with an aggregate of 1749 points, while the German team, comprising Robin Walter (586), Michael Schwald (581) and Paul Froehlich (576) bagged the silver with an aggregate score of 1743.
