Indian Women's Hockey Team Starts 5s World Cup Qualifier With A 7-2 Win Over Malaysia

India began their campaign in the Women's Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier with a rousing 7-2 win against Malaysia in Oman on Friday. For India, captain Navjot Kaur (3th, 28th), Akshata Dhekale (4th), Mariana Kujur (17th), Monika Dipi Toppo (12th, 20th) and Mahima Choudhary (28th) were on target. Malaysia struck through Wan Wan (7th) and Aziz Zafirah (11th). India made an attacking start with a fast-paced set-play, scoring in the third minute through Navjot. India's lead was doubled a minute later, when Dhekale scored a field goal.

Not only Chopra but DP Manu (81.31m) and Kishore Jena (80.55m) also made the cut as three Indians qualified the final of an event in the World Championships for the first time ever. The 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying mark is 85.50m. The qualifying window had opened on July 1. The 25-year-old Chopra's qualifying round lasted just a few minutes as he sent the spear to his season's best distance in his very first attempt in the Group A qualification round. He topped the qualification round.

HS Prannoy extracted the last ounce of energy from his reservoir to stun two-time defending champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in a thrilling 68-minute quarterfinal to ensure a medal for India in the World Badminton Championship on Friday. In a nail-biter, Prannoy once again showed his big-match temperament as he fought back from a game down to outwit the world No. 1 Axelsen 13-21 21-15 21-16 in-front of his home crowd at the Roal Arena.
