Cricket Australia has announced its ODI World Cup 2023 squad that will be led by Pat Cummin. Senior players like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, etc. have all been picked but there was no place for Marnus Labuschagne. Even the big-hitting middle-order batter Tim David couldn't find a spot in the roster. In comparison to the 18-member preliminary squad that Australi had earlier announced, all-rounder Aaron Hardie, pacer Nathan Ellis and young spinner Tanveer Sangha were the players to miss out.

The Indian cricket team squad for Cricket World Cup 2023 was announced on Tuesday with skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar holding a press conference in Kandy. At the start of the press conference, Agarkar read out all the 15 names who were included in the squad. Rohit's name was at the top of the list and his expression following the announcement has gone viral on social media. The India skipper jokingly punched the air before doing a small celebration after his name was announced.
Hima Das Provisional Suspended By NADA For Three Whereabout Failures in 12 Months
Star India sprinter Hima Das has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for three whereabout failures in 12 months, according to sources. The 23-year-old Assam runner has not been named in the Hangzhou Asian Games team due to an injury she had sustained earlier this year. "Yes, she has committed three whereabout failures in one year period and so she has been provisionally suspended by the NADA," an Indian team official told PTI on conditions of anonymity. She faces a maximum two-year ban, which can be reduced to a minimum of one year depending on the degree of her fault. Hima had won a 400m individual silver at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen Make First Round Exits From China Open
World Championship bronze medallist HS Prannoy made a shock opening-round exit from the China Open Super 1000 badminton tournament after going down in three games to Malaysia's Ng Tze Yong in Changzhou, China on Tuesday. The world number six Indian toiled hard for one hour six minutes before losing 12-21 21-13 18-21 to the Malaysian, who is ranked 22nd. Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen also crashed out of the tournament in the first round after losing to Anders Antonsen of Denmark in three games -- 21-23 21-16 9-21 -- in one hour and 18 minutes.

Reigning Asian champions India have been clubbed alongside Egypt, Switzerland, and Jamaica in Pool B of the upcoming FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup slated from January 24-31 in Muscat. Sixteen national teams will compete in the inaugural edition of the tournament and they have been divided into four groups of four teams each. India earned their qualification for the tournament after beating Pakistan 4-4 (2-0 SO) at the inaugural Men's Hockey5s Asia Cup at Salalah, Oman on Saturday. The Netherlands have been drawn with Pakistan, Poland and Nigeria in Pool A.

MANILA: United States forward Mikal Bridges said his team were “just plain hungry” after they overpowered Italy on Tuesday to book their place in the Basketball World Cup semifinals. The US beat Italy 100-63 to rebound from their first defeat of the tournament, a loss to Lithuania in the second round two days earlier. The Americans fell behind early against Lithuania but they had no such problems with Italy, leading by 10 points by the end of the first quarter. Bridges, who led the US in scoring with 24 points, said the mantra heading into the quarter-final game was to “set the tone.” “That’s what the coach has been preaching to us,” he said. “The bench has been doing a pretty good job but I think the starters have been letting them down a little bit with a slow start. “The coach got us prepared and we were just plain hungry.” The US never gave Italy a chance to get started, learning their lesson after allowing Lithuania to nail their first nine three-point attempts. The Americans limited Italy to just 24 points in the first half — the second-lowest tally ever from a team appearing in a World Cup quarter-final. “We took a tough loss last game,” said US center Paolo Banchero. “It felt like we didn’t play up to our standards on the defense end, so we wanted to come out and make a statement on defense.” The US will face either Germany or tournament sensations Latvia in the semifinals on Friday.
