Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar feels veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin could get released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. With just five wickets in seven matches, Ashwin has failed to justify the Rs 9.75 crore sum CSK paid to re-sign him at the IPL 2025 mega auction. With CSK crashing out of the playoff race on Wednesday, following the loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) at home, Bangar predicted that CSK might release Ashwin and pacer Matheesha Pathirana to free up their purse for the IPL 2026 mini auction.
The Instagram accounts of Pakistan cricket team stars were blocked in India following the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. Pakistan cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi had their accounts blocked in India alongside popular actors and actresses like Hania Aamir and Ali Fazal. Even the Instagram account of Olympic gold medalist javellin thrower Arshad Nadeem was blocked on Thursday. The decision to block these social media accounts was taken following the terrorist strike in Pahalgam that led to multiple deaths - marking one of the deadliest strikes in the valley in recent past.
"Media and technology are like helmets in a cricket kit," former India captain and coach Ravi Shastri said on Friday, urging players to "embrace" both as without them, the sport wouldn't have evolved the way it did in the last 40-45 years. Shastri said while there were only two mediums -- radio and Doordarshan (TV) -- during his playing days, the game has come a long way after India won the 1983 World Cup. "India has won a lot of tournaments in the last 40 years since we first won it in 1983. We made people dream," the 62-year-old Shastri said during a panel discussion on 'Intersection of Sports, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Media' at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES). "But you need the support. It's like you had pads in your kit bag, you had a cricket bat in your kit bag, media is part of the kit bag. Media and technology is like a helmet in your cricket bag; you jolly well embrace it." Shastri said technology, especially, is an essential element of sport now and players need to know how to use it to build themselves.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned the viability of the Rajasthan Royals' batting lineup in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). "I am thinking that once they decided to go with an all-Indian batting lineup, in which Samson was the most experienced and the oldest, with Shimron Hetmyer lower down the order - the only overseas batting option - is that even a viable option?" Aakash Chopra said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. Chopra also highlighted the importance of seniors in the team, citing Jos Buttler, who played the role of senior batter until last year for RR. Rajasthan released him ahead of IPL 2025.
Cheteshwar Pujara hasn't played for India since the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval in June 2023. India's Test team passed through a lean phase and could not make a place in this year's WTC final. Speaking about India's England tour starting next month, Pujara said he would grab the opportunity if it comes his way. "If the team needs and I get the opportunity, I am prepared from my end. I have been working on my physical fitness, performing well in the country and domestic tournaments. Team India has been quite competitive, but has not won a series in England for around 20 years now, so given an opportunity, I would like to give the best from my end and grab the opportunity if the team needs me. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has suspended former India pacer S Sreesanth for three years for allegedly making false and derogatory statements against it in connection with the controversy surrounding Sanju Samson's omission from the Indian team for the Champions Trophy. In a statement, the KCA said the decision was taken at its special General Body meeting held in Kochi on April 30. Sreesanth is currently a co-owner of Kollam Aeries, a franchise team in the Kerala Cricket League.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Akash Madhwal was spotted Mumbai Indians (MI) greeting Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh with folded hands after their IPL 2025 match on Thursday. MI took a giant steps towards the playoffs, thumping RR by 100 runs to occupy top spot in the IPL points table temporarily. Madhwal made his IPL debut under Rohit's leadership, impressing during the 2023 season.
