Uday Saharan will be leading India in the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa next year, as the same side from the ongoing U-19 Asia Cup has been retained for the global showpiece beginning on January 19. The 19-year-old Punjab lad would also be leading the side during a tri-series in South Africa, also involving England, from December 29, with Saumy Kumar Pandey being his deputy.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction players' list is out. The IPL Governing Council handed the franchise a list of 1166 and after all the franchises gave their wish-list, it was pruned to 333. Out of them, 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas and two from associate nations. The 10 franchises can collectively spend up to Rs 262.95 crore. Among the 77 slots available, 30 are earmarked for the overseas players and Australians will once again be in demand although likes of World Cup winning skipper Pat Cummins, final hero Travis Head, keeper Jos Inglis, star pacer Mitchell Starc are all in Rs 2 crore category.
After rain washed out the first T20I, it was time for some top-notch cricket action for the Indian cricket team and the South Africa cricket team in the second T20I in Gqeberha on Tuesday. South Africa captain Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to field first against India in the second T20I of the three-match series at the St George's Park. Riding on their remarkable run in the last two weeks, Indian women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto climbed four places to reach world number 24 in the latest BWF ranking issued on Tuesday. Some of India's best players, including local star D Gukesh will be in action in the Chennai Grand Masters Chess Championship 2023 to be held in Chennai from December 15 to 21. The tournament to be conducted by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will see a mix of eight GMs -- five international Grandmasters and three Indian GMs -- playing in a round-robin format with seven rounds of chess in the classical format. They will be competing for a total prize amount of Rs 50 lakh sponsored by the Government of Tamil Nadu, an official press note said on Monday.

When the 200m final of the T64 category started at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday, it was being telecast live on a big screen at Annai Vailankanni College in Tambaram, Tamil Nadu, thousands of kilometers away from here because one of the blade runners of this college, Rajesh K was participating in the first-ever Khelo India Para Games. The college administration wanted every child to see Rajesh performing because his story is that of immense courage. Rajesh lit up the track of JLN Stadium with his performance and won the gold medal in 200 meters.
