Suryakumar Yadav To Lead ICC Men's T20I Team Of The Year, 4 Indians Included

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the team of the year 2023, naming India's Suryakumar Yadav as the captain. The team consisted of a total of 4 Indians while the big players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, etc. were understandably absent, having not featured in the format since the conclusion of the T20 World Cup last year. But, the apex body did find places for other Indian stars like Ravi Bishnoi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Arshdeep Singh in the 11-member roster.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has warned England regarding the form of star batter Virat Kohli ahead of a five-match Test series, starting January 25. Irfan feels Kohli is back to his best, having shown great composure during the Test series against South Africa recently. The former India captain fought a lone battle in the first Test in December 2023, but the visitors lost the game by a hefty margin. He also scored a 46 on a trick pitch in the second Test which ended inside two days in Cape Town.

World Championships bronze medallists Deepak Bhoria and Nishant Dev will be among nine Indian boxers in the running to seal Paris Olympic quotas at the first qualification tournament, scheduled to take place in Busto Arsizio, Italy from February 29 to March 12. Six-time Asian Championships medallist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) and 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze winner Jaismine Lamboria (60kg) were also named in the nine-member Indian squad announced by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on Monday. Apart from Deepak (51kg), who once again pipped 2019 World Championships silver medallist Amit Panghal based on BFI's evaluation process, and Nishant (71kg), 2022 Worlds bronze winner Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg), who was out with a knee injury for most of last year, makes a return.

Former India left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan on Monday described Rohit Sharma as a leader who "walks the talk" and reckoned he will contribute handsomely both as a captain and batter in the upcoming five-Test series against England. Indian wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat roared to form, making a statement for playing XI selection ahead of the England Test series with a century. Playing against England Lions in a practice Test, Bharat scored 116 off 165 balls as India A looked to chase down the target of 490 runs. While his ton couldn't take the team all the way, with India A remaining 64 runs short of the target, Bharat did make a huge statement with the bat. Indian cricket team stalwart Virat Kohli has pulled out from the first two Tests against England over 'personal reasons'. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the same via a statement on Monday. The BCCI hasn't yet named a replacement for Kohli but plans to do so in due time. Earlier, Kohli had pulled out of the first T20I against Afghanistan too due to 'personal reasons'. It has, however, not been revealed what the personal situation is that Virat is dealing with.
