The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulated Ravichandran Ashwin after the veteran spinner was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award, India's fourth-highest civilian honour by President Droupadi Murmu, as part of the 2025 list of Padma awardees. The announcement, made on January 25, sees Ashwin as the only cricketer to be recognised this year, underscoring his immense contribution to the sport.
A "polite legal letter" from the BCCI has prompted the creators of a popular Australian podcast to take down "every single video" related to their coverage of the ongoing Indian Premier League from their social media accounts. Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, who host The Grade Cricketer, received a legal notice from the BCCI and the IPL over the weekend. "You may have noticed that every single video from our coverage of this year's cricket tournament has been removed from YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Instagram and X," Perry said on the podcast on Monday.
Danish Kaneria, former Pakistan cricket team player and the country's highest-wicket taking spinner in Tests, has levelled some serious allegations against former captain Shahid Afridi. Kaneria, with 261 scalps is the fourth highest wicket-taker among Pakistan players after Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Imran Khan. As a spinner, Kaneria played from 2000 to 2010. Afridi was his long-time teammate and the two shared dressing room too.
Former India left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi has thrown his hat in the ring for the post of spin bowling coach at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) that was vacated by Sairaj Bahutule earlier this year. The COE was earlier known as the National Cricket Academy when it was based out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It remains in the city but is now operational from a new location after BCCI purchased land to build a more expansive facility. Bahutule resigned to become an assistant coach in IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said the BCCI is seriously considering to expand the league to a 94-match home-and-away format from the next media rights cycle, which falls in 2028. The IPL currently has the 74-match format ever since Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) entered the fray in 2022. "Definitely, that might be an opportunity. We've been discussing in ICC, we've been discussing in-house in BCCI. Given how the interest of the fan is changing with regard to bilateral and ICC events, in regard to franchise cricket and T20 cricket, we'll have to talk more seriously about it and see how we can create maximum value for the stakeholders of the game."
