"Must Respect His Privacy": Ex-India Star's Take On Virat Kohli's Absence From India vs England Tests

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra opened up on Virat Kohli missing the ongoing Test series against England and said that everyone should "respect his privacy." While speaking to Jio Cinema, Chopra said that no one told the reasons why the former India skipper will be missing the entire Test series against England. "He has requested not to be considered for the whole series, no one has told us the reasons for which he sought this leave, and we must respect his privacy," Chopra said.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes that Shreyas Iyer looked troubled and needs to improve on his technique to face short ball after he was dropped from the remaining three-match Test squads. Shreyas struggled in the first two Test matches against England as he amassed scores of 35, 13, 27 and 29. Even in the two-match Test series against South Africa, Iyer struggled to muster up runs as he scored 41 runs in both matches. "If we are to believe sources, he was available for selection but was left out. And there are reasons for this. He has not scored in the previous 12-13 innings and the way he was batting was not good. It's ok to get out on bouncers, but the way he was trying to tackle them showed that he was not convincing," Chopra said while hosting JioCinema's sports show '#AAKASHVANI.

Four Indian players including skipper Uday Saharan and star batter Musheer Khan featured in the U-19 World Cup's Team of the Tournament announced by the ICC on Monday. Batter Sachin Dhas and Saumy Pandey are the other Indian players in the team. India finished runners-up after a 79-run loss to Australia in the title clash here on Sunday, which brought to an end their unbeaten run in the tournament. Bangladesh on Monday reappointed Najmul Hossain Shanto as national cricket captain for all three formats for the coming year due to uncertainty over the availability of regular choice Shakib Al Hasan. Najmul, 25, a top order batter, led Bangladesh in their last two series against New Zealand at home and away, but he had been expected to hand over the charge to Shakib. "Shakib was obviously our first choice as captain, but we did not want to live with any uncertainty," Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan told reporters.

Indian Women's Hockey Team Suffers 1-2 Loss To China In FIH Pro League

The Indian women hockey team's disappointing run in the FIH Pro League continued as it lost 1-2 to China in Rourkela on Monday. India took the lead in the seventh minute through Sangita Kumari's field goal but China equalised in the 14th minute through Gu Bingfeng (penalty corner), who scored his second goal of the match in the 53rd minute through a penalty stroke. India had lost to China by the same 1-2 margin in their earlier match on February 3 in Bhubaneswar.

Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh fumbled again and went down fighting against world number two Fabiano Caruana of United States in the first game of the quarterfinals in the Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess challenge in Wangels, Germany. Gukesh had a slight advantage in the middle game against Caruana but that slipped off quickly and the American Grandmaster pounced on his opportunity thereafter to take the full point home. The game lasted 39 moves.

India Batter Saurabh Tiwary Announces Retirement From Professional Cricket

India batter Saurabh Tiwary has announced his retirement from professional cricket and will feature in his final match for Jharkhand against Jamshedpur on February 15 in the Ranji Trophy. Tiwary started playing cricket at the age of 11, in the 2006-07 Ranji season Tiwari made his first-class debut as a teenager. He went on to win the Under-19 World Cup under the leadership of Virat Kohli in Malaysia in 2008. He continued to soar high with his performances for Mumbai Indians in 2010. He went on to score 419 runs which allowed him to earn a call-up for the India team for the Asian Cup. But he had to wait till October 2010 to make his international debut.

England Cricket Team Lands In Rajkot After Break In Abu Dhabi

Fresh from a one-week break in their pre-series base Abu Dhabi, the England cricket team on Monday returned to India for the remainder of the five-match rubber against the hosts, which is locked at 1-1 after two games. The England landed in the city -- venue for the third Test -- on Monday evening. After their 106-run loss in Visakhapatnam, the England players opted to utilise the 10-day break between the second and third Test by relaxing and playing golf in Abu Dhabi. The third Test is scheduled to be held here from February 15.
