Ravichandran Ashwin is on the verge of surpassing legendary Indian cricket team spinner Anil Kumble to claim a sensational record in the third Test match against England in Rajkot starting Thursday. The veteran cricketer is just five wickets away from becoming the Indian bowler with the highest Test wickets at home. Kumble currently holds the record with 350 wickets from 63 matches while Ashwin has taken 346 wickets from 57 matches. Overall, Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan holds the record with 493 wickets from 73 matches with the help of 45 five-wicket hauls and 15 ten-wicket hauls.

The Indian football team on Thursday dropped 15 places to 117th in the FIFA rankings, the worst in seven years, after the recent debacle in the AFC Asian Cup, where it lost all its three group matches. This was India's worst ranking after it was placed at 129th spot in January 2017 chart. The historical worst ranking, though, was 173 in 2015. The Indian team was placed at 102nd in the last FIFA rankings, issued on December 21, 2023. India also lost 35.63 rating points from the previous total. It now lies in between Togo (116th) and Guinea-Bissau (118th). The country is ranked 22nd among the Asian nations.

His runs came at a strike rate of 66.83. Now in 470 international matches, Rohit has scored 18,641 runs at an average of 43.35. He has also scored 47 centuries and 100 fifties for India, with the best score of 264. Above him are the stars like Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs), Virat Kohli (26,733 runs) and Rahul Dravid (24,064 runs). In 57 Tests, Rohit has scored 3,958 runs at an average of 45.49, with 11 centuries and 16 fifties. His best score is 212.
