Yashasvi Jaiswal (104 retired hurt) and Shubman Gill (65 not out) put India in command of the game on Day 3 after the hosts bundled out England for 319 and took a first-innings lead of 126 runs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has penned a note to top cricketers, including centrally contracted and India 'A' players, emphasing the importance of domestic cricket for national selection. According to a report in the Indian Express, Shah warned the players that domestic red-ball games remain a "critical yardstick for selection" and non-participation in it will have "severe implications". According to the letter, Shah addressed "the concerning trend of players prioritising the Indian Premier League (IPL) over domestic red-ball cricket".

R Ashwin is a content man after becoming only the second Indian to take 500 Test wickets and has no interest in chasing Anil Kumble's national record of 619 scalps. Ashwin dismissed England opener Zak Crawley in the final session on day two and became only the ninth bowler to scale 'Mount 500' in Test history. The 37-year-old Ashwin said he has no particular aim of pushing for more and try and get to Kumble's record. "The very simple answer is ‘no'… 120 wickets away. Every day is what I want to live for, and, I'm 37 years old. I don't know what's in store next,” Ashwin told the media after stumps on the second day.

During his second innings in the Rajkot Test match against England, Jaiswal crafted a superb knock that helped him reclaim his authority over the Three Lions in the ongoing five-match Test series.
