Virat Kohli is one of the best batters in the world. Be it in terms of stats or his style of play, the right-handed batter could be seen dominating on all fronts. Despite the player achieving so much in his life through his sensational performances, former India spinner and ex-teammate Harbhajan Singh feels that Kohli still has some 'unfinished business'. The retired India player said that the drought of the World Cup trophy since 2011 is something that Kohli would be lamenting.
Back in Mumbai Indians colours, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya on Friday vowed to play a brand of cricket which no one will forget as he leads the five-time champions this IPL season. Pandya was traded by MI from Gujarat Titans ahead of the upcoming season. He made his IPL debut with MI in 2015 and won four titles with the side before joining GT in 2022. He lead GT to a title win in the same season. "The feeling of wearing this colour is very special for me. Journey started here, coming back home and playing is always going to be special," said Pandya, who replaces Rohit Sharma as captain, in a video posted by the franchise on social media.
Young off-spinner Shreyanka Patil and uncapped veteran leg-spinner Asha Sobhana showed nerves of steel to take Royal Challengers Bangalore into WPL final with a five-run victory over defending champions Mumbai Indians in the 'Eliminator' on Friday. Chasing an easy target of 136 and needing 20 off last three overs, MI's innings ended at 130 for 6. RCB, who entered their maiden final in the second edition, will meet last year's runner-up Delhi Capitals in the summit clash on Sunday. It was 21-year-old Shreyanka (2/16 in 4 overs), whose vital 18th over raised visions of victory as she removed the MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (33).
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir received a warm welcome from the fans at the NSCBI Airport in Kolkata and he asserted that Kolkata is his second home. The former India opener stated that KKR is an emotion to him and thanked the fans for giving such a warm welcome. "Thank You for standing here and giving me a warm welcome. Kolkata is like my second home and KKR is an emotion," Gambhir told the media on Thursday. The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start on March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) set to clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a South Indian derby at their home arena--MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Kugadas Mathulan, a 17-year-old pacer from Sri Lanka, has reportedly joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. According to a report, CSK captain MS Dhoni was impressed with Mathulan, having seen a viral clip of him bowling during a Big Match between St. John's College and Jaffna Central College. In the viral video, Mathulan was seen uprooting the stumps of a batter with a toe-crushing yorker. Apparently, he is now bowling in the nets for CSK as Dhoni wanted to observe him from close quarters.
A rejuvenated Virat Kohli will be in a good mental frame after returning from a break and will look to capitalise on it during the IPL, said former Indian cricketer Subramanium Badrinath on Friday. Kohli, the only player in history of IPL to play 16 seasons for one franchise -- Royal Challengers Bangalore, is all set to return to action during the IPL after a paternity break that ruled him out of the marquee five-Test series against England. "He will be fresh (both) physically and mentally. God bless him that he has become the father to his second kid, so he will be back in a very good mental frame and will look to capitalise on it," Badrinath told PTI during a Star Sports Tamil IPL event.
Peshawar Zalmi were awarded five penalty runs after a throw from the Multan Sultans fielder hit Mohammad Rizwan's wicket-keeping glove which was lying on the ground during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 match on Thursday. Zalmi batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore played the ball from spinner Khushdil Shah towards fine-leg and Rizwan dashed from his wicket-keeping stance to retrieve the ball. The ball was ultimately collected by a fielder and his throw hit one of Rizwan's gloves that he took off and threw on the ground while running. Babar Azam, who was in the non-striker's end, pointed it out to umpire Aleem Dar who decided to award five runs as penalty due to 'illegal fielding'.
