Chennai will host the Indian Premier League (IPL) final on May 26, the first time in 12 years the city is hosting the summit clash after the Indian cricket board (BCCI) released the full schedule of the T20 franchise tournament on Monday.
Chennai was on Monday named venue of this year's IPL final on May 26 and was also awarded hosting rights of the second qualifier on May 24 as the BCCI unveiled the tournament's complete schedule, factoring in the polling dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Chennai has been awarded the final by virtue of Chennai Super Kings being the defending champions. The title-holders get to host the opening and the final game of the tournament as per established convention. The event got underway on March 22 after the BCCI announced the schedule for just the first two weeks (21 matches). The other two marquee play-off matches will be hosted by Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on May 21 and 22 respectively. PTI had reported the venues of the final four games of the tournament on Friday.

Harendra Singh is the frontrunner to replace Janneke Schopman as the Indian women's hockey team coach after he recently appeared for an interview, with the national body suggesting that he is the best person to lift the side following its failure to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Harendra has served at the same position in the past before being appointed as the United States men's team coach in 2021. "Yes, Harendra is in line to replace Janneke. Hockey India is keen to appoint him. He knows the structure of Indian hockey having coached both the men's and women's teams in the past. He is the best person to take the women's side to where it belongs," a source in the national federation told PTI.
Kidambi Srikanth's Swiss Open 2024 journey came to an unfortunate end as India's ace shuttler suffered defeat in the men's singles semi-finals at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel. Srikanth lost 21-15, 9-21, 18-21 against world No. 22 Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei in the last-four match, which lasted one hour and five minutes. This was Srikanth's first BWF semi-final appearance since November 2022. The BCCI on Monday released the full schedule of the IPL 2024. The BCCI had earlier released the schedule for the first two weeks of the IPL 2024 (21 matches). The remainder of the schedule has been drawn up, factoring in the polling dates and venues for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections across the country. Like the season opener, the Qualifier 2 and the grand final will take place in Chennai, the home turf of reigning champions Chennai Super Kings. The Qualifier 2, to be played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator, will take place on Friday, May 24th, followed by the summit clash on Sunday, May 26th.
