Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke has raised concerns over a possible rift between Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and veteran batter Rohit Sharma. Hardik and Rohit have been in the news ever since the all-rounder replaced the long-serving batter as captain of the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024. MI traded Hardik in from Gujarat Titans before naming him the captain. However, the move to replace Rohit with Hardik hasn't gone down well with the MI fans.
In a big boost for struggling Mumbai Indians, world number one T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav trained with the team on Friday after a long injury layoff and unleashed his trademark shots without any visible discomfort, raising hopes that he could compete in the team's next IPL match against Delhi Capitals. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are languishing at the bottom of the 10-team table, having lost all three matches so far and if Suryakumar plays, the Hardik Pandya-led team will hope that his presence helps them with the anticipated turnaround. The 33-old aggressive batter has been out of action since January. He underwent a surgery to treat sports hernia and was also nursing an ankle injury which he had sustained during India's tour of South Africa late last year.
The internal feud in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) took a new twist on Friday when nine members of its executive council asked "unauthorised persons" not to enter its headquarters in a notice directed towards two recently appointed officials. The notice was posted at the IOA office premises after a meeting of nine executive council members on Tuesday. IOA president PT Usha and most members of the executive council have been at loggerheads since the appointment of Raghuram Iyer as CEO on January 6. Iyer had earlier served as CEO of Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals.
Hardik Pandya is currently one of the most discussed cricketer in the world. Since the time he became the Mumbai Indians captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, nothing seems to be going right for the star all-rounder. MI have lost three games on the trot in the IPL 2024 to be placed last in the 10-team tournament and Pandya has been booed wherever his team has played, it includes Mumbai too. In the midst of this, Pandya was seen offering prayers at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat on Friday.
Indian cricket team batter Shubman Gill was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise from 2018 to 2021 but the association ended when he was not retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction. He went on to join Gujarat Titans and won the IPL title in the very first season before becoming the captain in the 2024 season. While there has been no friction between Gill and KKR in the past, the youngster's comment during an interaction with famous singer Ed Sheeran left the social media in splits. During the conversation, Ed Sheeran came to know that Gill played for a cricket franchise owned by Shah Rukh Khan. Sheeran replied that he was meeting SRK later for dinner and Gill was quick to say - "Ask him why did they not retain me?". It was a light moment that has gone viral on social media.
Shashank Singh - whose IPL 2024 auction selection by the Punjab Kings made a lot of noise - came to the franchise's need when the situation demanded and took his team to a memorable win against Gujarat Titans on Thursday. Chasing 200 vs Gujarat Titans, Shashank Singh top-scored for his team after the PBKS top-order had faltered. He reached the fifty-run mark in just 25 balls and stayed unbeaten till the end to see his side through.
Kolkata Knight Riders found a new star in the form of Angkrish Raghuvanshi who scored a quick-fire half-century on his debut to help the side put 272 runs on the board against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Wednesday. The 18-year-old batter played a 54-run knock from 27 balls at a strike rate of 200. He smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes. In a video shared on the official social media handle of the IPL, Raghuvanshi spoke about his Team India ambitions and meeting Shah Rukh Khan, an actor he has grown up watching on TV.
