Six out of 20 teams have progressed so far to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, with India (A1), Australia (B2), and Afghanistan (C1) in Group 1, and USA (A2), West Indies (C2) and South Africa (D1) in Group 2. The teams are assigned A1, B1 and so on not on the basis of where they finished in their group but according to pre-tournament designations.

Barely a day after taking charge, new Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday took stock of India's preparation for this year's Olympic Games during a meeting with IOA President PT Usha, where the latter exuded confidence about 100-plus athletes contingent from the country in Paris. Mandaviya, who took over the charge of sports ministry from Anurag Thakur on Tuesday, met Indian Olympic Association top brass, including Usha at the IOA Bhawan here on Thursday. The Paris Olympics 2024 begin from July 26.

Sumit Nagal continued his splendid form by entering the semi-final of the ongoing Perugia Challenger on Friday. The sixth-seeded Indian overcame the challenge from the unseeded Maks Kasnikowski of Poland in the quarterfinal, winning in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. This is his eighth successive win since the start of Heilbronn Challenger in Germany. In the semi-final on Saturday, he will be taking on the winner of the other quarterfinal clash between the unseeded Bernabé Zapata Miralles of Spain and second seed Laslo Djere of Serbia. Earlier in the event, Nagal had been victorious against the unseeded Nerman Fatic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening round before being successful against the unseeded Alessandro Giannessi of Italy in the pre-quarterfinal.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team is already through to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. While India are playing all their Group Stage matches in the USA, their Super 8 matches will be played in West Indies. The pitches in West Indies are expected to be vastly different from what New York offered to India in its first three matches. The variable bounce and unsettled pitch meant that teams failed to score big on the pitch. However, in West Indies, India are expected to get pitch which resembles those that they get at home. It also means that playing with four pacers (three specialist and one allrounder) may not always be the best option. In the New York leg of the matches, India fielded three pacers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.
