"Absolutely Shocked": Ashwini Ponnappa Blasts Sports Ministry's 'Ridiculous' Claim

Indian doubles badminton specialist Ashwini Ponnappa on Tuesday said she received little to no individual financial assistance from the sports ministry in the build up to Paris Olympics and even her request for a coach was turned down ahead of the just-concluded Games. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) had come out with a document, detailing the financial support provided to the Paris-bound Indian athletes. It mentions that Ashwini was provided Rs 4,50,000 under TOPS and Rs 1,48,04,080 under Annual calendar for Training and Competition (ACTC), which included the procurement of Game Ready recovery equipment, international competitions and sparring partner in the Tokyo cycle.

"Whereabouts Failures Due To Technical Glitch": Tokyo Paralympics Champion Pramod On Suspension

Following his suspension from the sport due to violation of anti-doping violations, Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat on Tuesday said that the three whereabout failures within a 12-month period were due to a "technical glitch" rather than an intentional wrongdoing. "Excuse Is Where Our Country Will Win Gold...": Sunil Gavaskar On Prakash Padukone Olympics Row

The Indian badminton contingent did not win a single medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with Lakshya Sen coming close but failing to win his men's singles bronze medal match against Lee Zii Jia. Badminton legend Prakash Padukone, who was the coach and mentor of the badminton team at the Paris Olympics, was extremely disappointed with the showing and after Lakshya's loss, he said that it was "high time the players step up and win as expected". The comments resulted in quite a bit of criticism for Padukone with Ashwini Ponnappa coming up with a fiery reply. However, former Indian cricket team batter Sunil Gavaskar has come to Padukone's defence. In his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar said that "making excuses" has become a habit of the country and that resulted in the criticism of a legend like Padukone.

'Rohit Sharma Can Play For 2 More Years, Virat Kohli...": Harbhajan Singh Makes Big Prediction

Former India great Harbhajan Singh believes that Virat Kohli with his supreme fitness can easily survive the rigours of international cricket for another five years while Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma will last at least another couple of years. "Rohit can easily play for two more years. You never know with Virat Kohli's fitness, you can see him competing for five years. He is probably the fittest guy in the team," Harbhajan told PTI Videos in an exclusive interview. "You ask any 19-year-old competing with Virat (on fitness). Virat will beat him. He is that fit. I believe Virat and Rohit have a lot of cricket left in them and it is entirely up to them. If they are fit enough, they are performing and the team is winning, they should continue to play. As simple as that," the man with 700 plus international wickets said.
