All India Chess Federation Announces Rs 3.2 Crore Rewards For Olympiad-Winning Teams

The All India Chess Federation announced a whopping Rs 3.2 crore in rewards for the historic 45th Olympiad-winning Indian teams during a felicitation ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday. AICF president Nitin Narang made the announcement during the event. Each player from the winning teams will receive Rs 25 lakh, while the coaches of the men's and women's teams, Abhijeet Kunte and Srinath Narayanan, will be rewarded with Rs 15 lakh each. Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, head of the Indian delegation, will receive Rs 10 lakh, and the assistant coaches will be rewarded Rs 7.5 lakh.

The Indian cricket team has started training for the second India vs Bangladesh Test in Kanpur, that starts on Friday. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is expected to be held at the end of this year. Mega auctions often throw interesting combinations with the tricky part being the retention of players. According to a report in The Indian Express, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may allow the IPL IPL franchises to retain five players ahead of the IPl 2025 mega auction. The report further said that no Right To Match option shall be available.

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan on Wednesday revealed that he didn't have the "inspiration" left to take the domestic cricket route for a place in the national side and that was the reason why he chose to retire from the game last month. The 38-year-old Dhawan retired from international and domestic cricket late in August after having played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is for India between 2013 and 2022. "I didn't want to play domestic cricket, which I started playing at the age of 18 or 19 and I didn't have that inspiration from inside to play that (form of) cricket," Dhawan told PTI in an interview on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket, an event for retired cricketers that he signed up for after calling it quits from the game internationally.

The Green Park curator said on Wednesday that the wicket for the second Test between India and Bangladesh will be an ideal five-day pitch that will assist pacers in the first two sessions and aid spinners on the last three days. The Test is scheduled to commence on Friday. "There will be that Chennai match feeling. It will have something for everyone. It will offer bounce in the first two sessions and it will be pretty good for batting for the first two days. Then, the spinners will come into play on the last three days," curator Shiv Kumar told PTI.
