The threat of lightning followed by rain delayed the resumption of the third test between Australia and India in the first session of day five in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Australia bowler Nathan Lyon said he was surprised by India's jubilant celebrations after the visitors avoided the follow-on in the third test in Brisbane and questioned whether the tourists' batters were up for the fight.
Australia's veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon said a few of his team members were surprised over the reaction of members of the Indian team over avoiding the follow-on on Day Four of the third Test at Gabba. At the Gabba, the last wicket partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep helped India avoid the follow-on and averted a potential innings defeat. As soon as Akash got a thick outside edge over gully for four off Pat Cummins, it led to jubilant reactions and high-fives amongst captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir and talismanic batter Virat Kohli.
Jasprit Bumrah is turning out to be India's saviour in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, not just with the ball but with the bat too. Having already scalped 18 wickets in the series, Bumrah showed his prowess with the bat on the fourth day of the third Test in Brisbane on Tursday, as he and Akash Deep struck a crucial unbeaten last wicket stand to help India avoid a follow-on. The partnership might just have saved the Test match for India. A day before, Bumrah gave a witty reply when asked about India's batting. He even name-dropped tech giant Google in it.
It has been a disappointing few months for Shubman Gill. The Indian cricket team batter has been struggling for runs in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Gill's dismissals received a lot of criticism from the former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali who believes that the youngster is lacking "hunger for runs". Gill failed to score big in the third Test match in Brisbane as well after he was dismissed for 1. Basit said that youngsters like Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal should not look at the struggles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He added that Gill needs to forget the past and concentrate more on his game.
Akash Deep apologised to Travis Head following a bizarre exchange on Day 5 of the third Test match between India and Australia in Brisbane on Wednesday. Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah looked quite confident at the start of the day's play and the former looked to play some aggressive shots against Nathan Lyon. While going for a slog sweep, Akash Deep missed the ball completely and it got stuck inside his pads. He quickly took it away and threw it on the ground. The Indian cricketer did not notice that Travis Head thought he will hand him the ball and that led to a chat with the Australian batter.
