Over in Uganda, the NGO Human Rights Watch is sounding the alarm over a crackdown on those opposed to the mega oil project by French company TotalEnergies. The environmental consequences of drilling in a natural park and the construction of a giant oil pipeline are the subject of criticism. However, according to the NGO, authorities in Kampala are "suppressing the freedom of expression" of environmental activists. Back in September 2022, the European Parliament had already condemned human rights violations related to the construction projects.
