For the first Test against West Indies that starts on Wednesday, India will see a new opening combination. India captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday announced that talented youngster Shubman Gill will bat at No. 3 slot. In the past, Shubman has opened for India and has achieved much success in his 16-Test career so far. Sharma also announced that India will see a left-right opening combination. Also, two spinners will be in the XI.

Ahead of the first Test against West Indies, Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane said that his side is not going to take the Windies lightly despite their recent struggles, which also include not being able to secure a spot for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and missing out on the global cricketing extravaganza for the first time ever. India will kick off its ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 campaign with a two-Test series against West Indies, with the first Test from Wednesday in Dominica.

Team India is all set to take on the West Indies in the first Test, starting July 12 in Dominica. It will be the first game for the side since the World Test Championship final against Australia that ended on June 11. After the game, the Indian players got some good personal time and they will now be back playing at the highest level after a one-month break. The Indian team has already reached Dominica and started the training at the venue.

West Indies' performance mentor Brian Lara believes his players are moving in the "right direction" and hoped some of them will grab the opportunity and produce the goods against a formidable India in the upcoming two-Test series. India will begin their Test campaign on July 12 in Dominica, followed by three ODIs and five T20Is in a multi-format series. "We have two very important Test matches which start the two-year cycle (World Test Championships) for us, it is against India. At home and away from home, they are one of the top teams in the world," said Lara.

The Indian cricket team is currently in the West Indies for its series in the Caribbean. They are set to play two Test matches, a three-match ODI series and five T20Is. The tour will kick off with a Test match at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. This will be the first game for the Indian cricket team since the World Test Championship final against Australia that concluded on June 11. The Rohit Sharma-led side is currently in Dominica preparing for the first Test against West Indies that will kick off on July 12.
